"To the point: Making much of a makeover"

Is having a newly designed uniform for the female freshmen students every year really necessary or just a waste of money?

The variations in the student’s uniform started on the year 2011 and still continuing at the present. The Far Eastern University intended to refurbish its image when they changed the female student’s original plaid skirt uniform to a plain green pencil cut and now a moss green skirt. As if this transformation has improved the performance of students in their field of study and educating needs in the university?

Aside from the name of the school, uniform is the second thing that students will look at a colleges or universities.

The commonality of the old skirt and its appearance as a curtain on public transportation like buses, generates humiliation that causes the administration to come up with a new dress code for female. When things weren’t go right, there is always a need for back up or second option. Female freshmen and transferees are required to use new textile design of the skirt. FEU Office of Students affairs (OSA) said that upon non-compliance of the new skirt shall mean uniform- related offense and be subjected to penalty in accordance with the existing guideline in uniform.

On the other hand, the only ones who benefit from the new uniforms are the supplier, middleman, and probably, the administration. But despite of OSA’s announcement, students still patronize or use the older one because it carries the image and identity of the university. If that is so, then the administrations implementation of the new dress code for female freshmen students is useless and just a waste of money because it is not implemented properly.

If they cannot discipline the students with this new uniform policy, then what more on the years to come?

People and students from other institution of higher education can no longer distinguish who Tamaraws are. Are they the ones wearing the replica of the Trinity University of Asia’s Uniform (pencil cut skirt), the new design textile of the skirt, or the original checkered skirt? Even our identity as a Tamaraws are affected because of this inconsistency.

Let’s go back to basic. Even though you don’t modify the uniform, FEU is still FEU! No need for makeover.
