Watch To Know How You can be Tax Free & Get "Mini-Jobs" in Germany
👋 Understanding tax obligations and social security contributions is vital for international students to manage their net income effectively.
🇩🇪 In Germany, the "mini-job" concept allows students to earn up to €538 per month (or €556 in 2025) generally tax-free and exempt from most social security contributions, with the exception of pension contributions if earning over €450 per month.
📍 There is also an annual tax-free allowance, set at €12,096 in 2025, meaning income below this threshold is not taxed.
📝 However, if a student earns more than the mini-job limit or works over 20 hours per week during the academic term, they may become liable for income tax and full social security contributions (health, unemployment, and pension).
These taxes can often be reclaimed by submitting a tax return at the end of the year.
