Recently I took stock in my measured warps and I was completely out of student warps to send to other new weavers. So I made six for students and one for me today. And mine will not only test my work on 8-pairs, but is three times as long as I normally weave, to work on another new skill: How to weave long items. Goldilocks with Yarn: (1) Left: When I spun not knowing anything about what the yarns for weaving should be like, my spinning most closely resembled commercial yarns. (2) Right: Later I found a commercial yarn that was thin enough and dyed it myself (plus adding twist, of course) before weaving. (3) Center: My handspun and hand dyed is starting to resemble the handspun hand-dyed yarns from Peru that I wove with in class. Finished lifetime band #34: Second ever with hand-spun, first with the focused spinning I started last year. The collage shows how I spun, prepped, and dyed the threads. More hand-spun, hand-dyed, "precious stash" yarns: In January 2019, I decided I was ready to DEEP-DIVE properly study Andean Backstrap Weaving, including making the *appropriate* sized yarn (if possible) for weaving. January to June I spun 8 ounces of white thread, made paired singles balls of yarn, made figure-eight skeins, and took them to the Griffin Dyeworks Retreat for natural dye pots. Afterwards, skeins back into balls of yarn, plied yarns, and now my first band from THAT stash. Once again, the pattern HAS to be Tanka Ch'oro for any "first" project.
