You might know ‘em for their corn dogs and cowboy boots, but we’re here to tell you, Iowa’s got game.
Whether you consider your clientele to be 90210 and Hollywood housewives, or farmers from the 50210, the salon industry around the country is driven by stylists and salon owners that understand hard work (not their zip code) is the key to their success. Studio7 Salon in Ames, Iowa, knows it and brings it.
“We went for it,” said Krista. “Even though the economy at the time was crashing around us, it didn't stop us. We knew we could make an impact right here in small town Iowa. And we have. ”
Within three years, the upscale salon had outgrown their 5-year business plan and not by chance. Their biggest challenge was wrapping their heads around their sudden success. They needed new goals, to set a pace for the future and that’s when Krista’s blog, “Business 101” was born. She knew her good, bad and otherwise interesting experiences could be useful for other professionals around the country.
“The process of learning and growing is a beautiful mystery to me. It drives me to continue my journey, and share with our industry,” noted Krista. In her blog, she shares tips for young professionals on taking their career seriously – no fluff. Go time.
“As far as I’m concerned, a cosmetology license can get you more places than most four year degrees,” said Krista. (Um, can we get a hell yeah, sista!) “From stylists to technicians, educators, platform artists, editorial stylists, owners – and managers, each piece of the puzzle is equally important.”
The team at Studio7 Salon evolves daily. The bar is set high and Krista keeps it elevated by providing continued opportunities for her team to become the best-of-the-best.
“Whether we’re partnering with the University’s fashion design department on Fashion Week hair or consulting with a client, we still need to keep pace with the latest trends (and in some cases, set our own),” said Krista. As a top salon, we’re expected to define innovation and style.”
