Work Experience 29/9
Today during my work placement at Studio Republic I spent the morning on an artwork task, making amendments to inserts which the client had stated. Although there is not much design work involved in this type of task, it did allow me to get experience in this type of work where a careful eye for detail is essential to make sure all of the changes are correct. There were some bits of information the client had left out and I mad Barn aware of these which he was pleased with.
In the afternoon I worked on branding for Hobbs & Fancy, a high end builder/interior architect in London. I really enjoyed working on this task as it was quite challenging, the brand has two sides to it with the Hobbs and Fancy and I tried to capture this by using two different typefaces. By using the large ampersand I feel it manages to hold the two parts together nicely whilst also being able to be used alone as a marque which could be embossed or used with another professional printing technique to allow it to stand alone. Again another project that I have worked on which I am really looking forward to seeing develop.
Im going back to AUB tomorrow for my third year of study but will be continuing also with my work experience which I am really excited about. Looking forward to getting back to uni I feel I have really improved as a designer over this Summer and feel I am in a good position to start my final year!
Internship 23/7
Having got back from a two week holiday today I started my internship at Studio Republic, it was great to get back to doing some design work from some time off! Barney the lead creative set me the task of creating a PDF guide for clients outlining advice and information on web design services. To begin with I was unsure how to approach this as I saw it as quite a formal document and my first approach reflected this, however upon reflection it was clear that my design seemed a bit to corporate and needed to fit the visual style of the agency better. Following Barney (the lead creatives) advice I started to play around more with the layout and include some icon style illustrations and introduce more colour to the designs to show the audience the creative side to the agency. Real good first day in all I am really happy to be back doing what I love and have found it great working in a proper studio environment all of the guys are helpful and made me feel welcome, Studio Republic seems like a great place to work and I am excited to get going!
