after a big search segment and cross referencing words and images from the Practical Alchemy and various websites, tl;dr: most of this stuff is appropriated from Hinduism and Judaism, so I am not utilizing any of those beliefs or practices as stated in the book.
I will also summarize below everything that is definitely + most likely appropriated via influence or other factors that occurred somewhere in history.
alchemy concepts and etc. that are appropriated:
- tree of life
- chakras will always be appropriation if you’re not Buddhist and etc., especially in western culture where this is mostly happening/has happened.
- occult anatomy
books to avoid/to be careful when reading or pulling information:
Practical Alchemy by Robert Allen Bartlett (chapter ten goes into Qabalah, the cover has a Jewish symbol on it, Hinduism parallels, etc. And with images being in both this one and Golden Chain of Homer, that book is likely appropriation too if it’s a source)
- I don’t know if there are non-appropriative forms/ways to practice alchemy and etc., (because of where all of this originated from, and some of it still isn't clear to me) but for now I’m personally benching utilizing any of the methods or anything in this book until I know for sure, and because it’s not a requirement to know any of this for plant + kitchen magic, pog (which was my primary interest leading into this supporting study)
Golden Chain of Homer (I’m not entirely sure about this one, but some of the images look like stuff from Hinduism, and some of it is directly from Judaism, so I’m being safe rather than sorry)
