I gave my first talk at our department’s weekly talk sesh today! I think it went well, although I definitely finished with about five minutes to spare, not including the time for questions. :/
My favorite feedback that I got on it was “You sound so happy talking about your research” 😊🥰
Featuring a gratuitous selfie because the VSCO app had a fun filter for Earth Day 🌳

Day 4- For my researching fellows, what are you researching on? If you’re not currently researching, what is the topic within your field that you’re most passionate about?
My research is on how the visual system decides what to pay attention to! So like when things pop out at you, what about that thing determines whether it will catch your attention or if you’ll ignore it. It’s super fun for me, although my experiments are pretty boring to participate in heh

My workspace right now is largely on-the-floor-by-the-sofa because sitting in chairs aggravates my pinched nerve 🙃

Day 1- Introduce yourself! What’s some basic info you’d like to share about yourself? Also! What are you studying? (If you’re in college, what’s your major? which semester are you in?)
Starting this challenge late but whatever 💁🏼♀️
I'm Jools and I'm studying cognitive neuroscience! I'm in my first year, second semester of my PhD program. I like bullet journaling and taking photos and reading and such but I don't really have many hobbies right now because grad school.

Working on a draft of my first-year project paper. Also pictured: pretty phlox we found yesterday while getting out of the house!

Day 3- Have you done a challenge before? If so, how was it? If not, what are you expecting to get out of this experience?
I have but they've been, like, gifset challenges. I usually don't finish them, lol. This one is nice because I usually have a hard time coming up with captions for my photos, so it's good to have a writing prompt.

Day 2- If you’ve chosen a major, why did you decide on it? If you’re in any other grade , what field/major interests you the most?
I'm into the cognitive neuroscience of vision! I'm here because I used to study communication and got frustrated with the research methods used in that field. I wanted to do something with more hard science behind it than just surveys and self-reports. At first I got into social psych, but then I discovered that vision is super cool, so I decided to specialize in that.
