Getting started: learning a language
I think learning a language is like running. I set a particular goal in mind: fluency. But for a long time I see other people running distance like they've done it their whole life. I decide I want to start too. Armed with nothing but the basics I head out. With little knowledge of how to achieve my goal and even less direction, I do a mile.
"Good for me." A applaud myself for getting started. For months all I do is a mile. At the end of a few months I'm very good at running just one mile. Sometimes I try to push myself into the unknown. I always give up, the familiarity of a mile is to much for me. The comfort keeping my passions from becoming a reality.
