Psychology and Technology
I really love the way that technology can be applied to so many aspects of our lives. I’m specifically interested in how it can be applied to psychology. I feel like psychology and technology go so well together because there you are making things for people to make their lives better and easier and psychology is all about how people work and how they think and I just love the intersection between the two.
On Tuesday I had the opportunity to shadow an engineer at VisualDNA a company that uses data and what they know about the psychology of people in a variety of different ways. What I found really interesting was their Credit & Risk solution. They use psychological tests to determine how good a candidate someone is that doesn’t have credit, and I thought this was such an amazing application of psychology and technology.
I shadowed an engineer called Anna and it was really interesting to see how teams work and in general how a technology company functions. I also got the chance to talk to a psychologist that works there and she was explaining to me how they incorporate psychological studies into what they do. It was a great experience and even though I was only there for the day I learnt so much.
The experience got me thinking more about psychology and technology and how they can come together to solve problems. It was such a good day and everyone there was sooooo nice.
If you have time you should try one of their quizzes, what is really good about them is that you answer with the picture that you think is most relevant. The whole concept is just incredible.
It’s possible that you might have thought that series like Millionaire Matchmaker and The Real Housewives of [Insert City Here] marked some kind of nadir for shameless reality television, but Bravo—ever the innovator in this area—has proven otherwise with the announcement of its new programming slate. After all, rich trashy women in America is one thing, but when you bring them over to London, that’s a whole other ballgame.
I wrote about Bravo's new programming slate for Wired. It was therapeutic.
Hello, friend! Do you like comics? Do you like podcasts? Do you ever find yourself wishing you could listen to men, grown men, grown middle-aged men, talking about comics and pop culture for more than three hours, with more than ninety minutes devoted to comic books that are more than fifty years old?
Jeff and I talk about comics for a very very long time. More rambly than usual, but a lot of fun to record, even if I feel bad for Jeff having to edit it all together afterwards.
(We talk about the Veronica Mars movie in the last... 30 minutes or so, too, for people who aren't into comics but want something to listen to anyway.)
