The long haul
As I watched the stump-grinders grind away Wednesday, I caught myself thinking ... “Finally .. the last step ...” (in the tree-removal project that began in January).
Not quite. The grinders left us with a small mountain of debris that had to be hauled away, one wheelbarrow at a time.
But that wasn’t the end of it, either. Now we’ll have to bomb the nitrogen-depleted bare patch with fertilizer, then bring in topsoil and grass seed.
Experience has taught me that it will take several years and a lot of coaxing to get the grass to grow.
The grind continues.
