Last night's walk...

Thomas Wayne asked his son, "Bruce, why do we fall?" Last night on my way to spaghetti night, I got my answer to that.

We fall because we're listening to a Disney song on our iPod, humming along, and not noticing that what looks like dirt on wet, smooth asphalt is not dirt at all, but is in fact a 16th of an inch of very slippery mud. Said mud will cause our feet to slip out from under us and slam down hard enough onto the asphalt to cause a gash on our left knee.  This is why we fall.

On the upside, my iPod skipped ahead a song while I was getting up to the "The First Avenger March".  I can only hope that my karmic reward for the indignity of my fall was that I'll get to punch Hitler over 200 times.

Stubbornness and new shoes

I once got my foot stuck in the mud. Getting out would have been as easy as taking off my shoe, but I’m stubborn, and I wasn’t going to let the mud win. I fought with all I had, but the mud fought harder and soon my other foot was stuck. In the end I lost both shoes and my pride, in that battle against the mud. There’s a lesson there about knowing your limits and admitting defeat, I just haven’t learned it yet.

So we can learn to pick ourselves up. Why do we pick ourselves up? So we don’t get left behind. Literally.

The Damage Done

My bike suffered even more damage than I suspected from that muddy race :o(.

2 new sets of brake pads (the rear were only weeks old)

New rear brakes

new chain (the one being replaced was only weeks old)

new big ring

all new cables & housing
