So what do you think? Is it truly racist not to be attracted to a person of every single race? I mean it's obviously bad if someone says you're cute for *insert your race here*. I'm saying a person can acknowledge how pretty someone is, but not necessarily be attracted to them. So should one HAVE to be attracted to everyone equally? Or is it wrong to have a preference? I've been thinking on this for a while and it'd be cool to here your thoughts on it.
I don’t think not being attracted to a person of every single race, per se, makes one racist. After all, we have little control over whom we find attractive, and preferences are rarely the result of conscious choice.
When thinking on it, I put myself in the position of someone affected by this. I imagined that a woman who isn’t attracted to caramel-skinned people like me forced herself to pretend to find me attractive because ~* EQUALITY *~ and I eventually found out. I found this insulting—both because it suggests she’s doing me a favor (she’s not) and she demonstrates a lack of respect for my time and energy by luring me into a farce.
I suppose a succinct way of stating my view is: Perhaps all racists are not attracted to certain races, but not all those who are not attracted to certain races are racist.
On its own, I consider racial preference to be on par with hair color preference, eye color preference, height preference, etc.
