for @way-too-out-of-touch - Happy Holidays, Molly!!!!
new year’s day on spotify
I was overjoyed looking at your blog seeing that you like Taylor Swift because I think so many of her best songs connect to Lydia and her feelings/relationship with Stiles- especially on Red and Reputation. I wanted this playlist to focus more on Lydia’s feelings because I think her emotional journey with herself, her friends, and Stiles has been so beautiful. She was so guarded and alone at the start, and now she has all of these people who love her for the wonderful woman she has grown into.
Put Your Money On Me- Arcade Fire: “I’m never gonna let you go even when it’s easy” is possibly one of the most accurate lines to describe Stiles and Lydia’s relationship together, even before they officially start a romantic relationship. They have such a strong connection, and they care about each other on such a high level. After all they have been through, nothing could tear them apart.
Clean - Taylor Swift: Lydia went through a lot in a very short amount of time. Despite how horrible Jackson was, losing him hurt her deeply. Then she loses Allison. She feels so alone and so hurt, but she grows and comes back from it. She carries Allison with her every day and she became a better woman than the one that was with Jackson. She had a lot of growing to do, and even though she had to do a lot of it alone, she came out of it as one of the strongest members of the pack.
You Are In Love- Taylor Swift: This is one of those love songs generic enough to fit most couples, but the little details in it mean everything to me. It just feels like the perfect, pink-tinged love song that they deserve after all those years of build-up, hurt, and longing.
Tenn Feet Tall - Wrabel: Everything about this song makes me feel warm inside; Stiles and Lydia are not just a good couple, they are a good team. They build each other up and work well together, Everything about their relationship is built on mutual love, support, and trust that has developed from a strong friendship.
Agape- Bear’s Den: The Greek word agape means “the highest form of love.” Basically, soulmates; I think you can find many true loves, but few are lucky enough to find their soulmate. That person who complements you in all the right ways, but keeps you on your toes. Who provides care, and love, and joy after a dark storm of hurt- or through it, holding your hand. This is Stiles and Lydia at their very core.
Stay- Sara Bareilles: This is just a beautiful song that feels like Lydia, maybe at the beginning of her feelings for Stiles. There’s an insecurity, but a longing that is stronger than the trepidation. It’s gorgeous and steady.
Anchor- Mindy Gledhill: Anchors aren’t just for werewolves anymore! I think this song works both ways for Stiles and Lydia. They have both seen so much so young, and it can be hard to carry that on your shoulders. Between nightmares and grief and just the trials of adulthood, these two make sure to keep each other centered.
New Year’s Day- Taylor Swift: “I stay when it’s hard, or it’s wrong, or we’re making mistakes” I see Lydia and Stiles at 30, married and cleaning up after a party. They’re both comfortable in their carriers and happier than ever. They also still love each other just like they did at eighteen.
Malibu 1992- COIN: Speaking of loving each other like they’re eighteen, this song is all about old love that still has remnants sticking around. Feel free to ignore the last four lines of the song, as I always do. This song is just slow, and easy, and everything that I want Stiles and Lydia’s love to be. Lasting, true, and strong.
Molly, I truly hope you love this playlist and these songs, and I also hope you enjoyed my reasoning for picking them! Have a wonderful Holiday and Happy 2018!!
