Niall knew the moment he saw you walk into the pub and head straight for the bar and order a beer that he was going to marry you. He knew by the way his heart started racing when he finally managed to make his way over to you. He knew by the way your voice was like a melody to a song he had never heard but would soon be all he could think about. He knew that the spark he felt go all the way down from his chest to his toes when you smiled at him wasn’t due to the alcohol because to be quite honest he wasn’t even buzzed.
He knew that when he saw you smile that he couldn’t imagine your face without a smile on it, the thought of you frowning with tears rolling down your cheeks actually made him kinda angry. He made a silent promise to himself that very moment that he would do anything to keep a smile on your face. He swears he fell in love with you the moment he heard you laugh, he tells you “it’s da most beautiful song in da world love.” The only thing Niall didn’t know was if you felt the same way, he knew you loved him that was obvious by how fast you agreed to things he would bring up to sort of test the waters a bit.
He brought up moving in together only a few weeks of knowing you, “jus like the idea of comin home to ya is all.” When you just smiled and said okay he knew you had to feel somewhat the same way he did. When you would let him have his little fits over organizing the closet, you told him that you didn’t hang up your t shirts because those could easily go in a drawer and to say the least he didn’t agree, he knew he could truly be himself around you. He knew that when he flipped on the sports channel and you would just snuggle closer to him on the couch as you flipped the page of your book that this is what he wanted forever, the two of you just went so well together.
Niall knew you wanted to be married one day, he wasn’t sure if it was to him but the fact that you weren’t opposed to the idea of marriage was a good sign. He knew you had told him you had a few more things you wanted to get done in life before settling down and he respected that. He tested the waters once more when he casually slipped a ring on your hand while you were asleep on the couch, it was a traditional Irish claddagh ring and he knew you’d appreciate the fact it was simple with no big fancy stone. He couldn’t help but laugh when you woke up and saw the ring and then gave him a playful glare as you said “you just have to put a ring on it don’t you.” He knew you loved it by the way your eyes lit up when you ran you finger over the smooth silver.
It wasn’t until a few months after first meeting you that Niall finally got all the answers he needed. The two of you were walking home from a late dinner with your hand held securely in his and just as the two of you passed a cute little flower shop you turned and looked at him.
“Can we get married in Ireland?” Your voice wasn’t what made Niall stop dead in his tracks, it was soft and sweet as usual. It was the words that he wasn’t expecting to hear come from you that had him left in a state of shock.
You raised an eyebrow at him as he just sort of stared at you for a moment before his face broke out into a wide grin. You were soon being engulfed by the warmth of his body and his sweet but manly scent as his arms wrapped around your middle bringing your bodies together. Niall couldn’t believe that you had just so casually brought up marriage and not in a general discussion but asking about the day the two of you would get married.
“We can get married wherever ya want my love.” You heard him whisper in your ear and you felt his lips press a kiss to the top of your head. “Jus happy ya wanna marry me at all ta be honest.” He still had that grin on his face when you pulled away from him so you could look him in the eyes.
“Well you’re my soulmate, of course I want to marry you.” You stated it as if it was a well known fact and it just made Niall smile even more. He pulled you into his chest and the two of you stayed like that for a bit. Niall just couldn’t believe that you loved him as much as he loved you, he was so happy knowing that one day he was going to give you a proper ring along with his last name and you would gladly take it. He never had felt more complete in his life, it was as if all the puzzle pieces started fitting together and all his doubts and questions were long gone and he felt at peace knowing he was your soulmate and you were his.
