Evolution is hard. I’ve been attending the #zerotoinfluence boot camp and taking a deep look at myself and my motivations. Not everything is straightforward; as a matter of fact, the more I dig the more I don’t understand. I know it’s part of the process and I’m turning myself over to it completely. While I’m not afraid, I am unsettled because certain truths are surfacing and things are not what I thought they were. Change does not come about without disruption of the status quo. But that’s ok because while evolution is hard, the growth that results is a great thing! The blinders are off and I’m seeing myself with new eyes. I’m trying to simplify my approach to makeup and the content I provide. With brands cranking product out seemingly every day, it’s extremely challenging for influencers and consumers to keep up. As I’m preparing for the #zerotoinfluence boot camp, the course is pushing me to take a hard look at myself, my content, and what I bring to the table for you. The boot camp has already begun changing my perspective by changing my mindset, and by helping me to define, from the core of who I am, what my purpose is on YouTube, a purpose that not only taps into what I’m passionate about, but how I can bring that in the most meaningful way for YOU! This introspection has sparked my idea around what I call The Beauty Edit. Every month I will curate a usable collection of makeup for the month and will report back at month’s end on how things went. This way, I’m going back to basics, and hopefully providing quality content that is of service to my audience. It all started out as harmless research for an upcoming video and turned into a full blown shopping extravaganza that left me feeling dizzy. My lipstick purge continues and now that I’m a few days since doing it, I have to say I’ve really enjoyed the experience. Not only am I sharing my love of lipsticks with my friends and others, I’ve gained a real appreciation for some old favorites. And that my friends, is one of the benefits of clearing out the old, whatever it may be. I feel lighter, am sharing with others, have gained an appreciation of my good fortune, and of what I have. Maybe I still have a lot but now I know it’s bringing something of value to my life. Letting go of those things we hold on to is such a liberating experience! It creates room for other, more important things to enter our lives. While this is a way existential view of decluttering something as menial as lipstick, it still holds true that hanging onto things for the sake of having them sometimes isn’t the best thing for you.
