PROJECT ONE - IN THE STYLE OF
Definitely the coolest exercise yet - needless to say the image I was working from is first, followed by my derived one. The source image is really interesting, it's done in a very rough, freehand sort of way, but at its heart it's quite technical and structured. Fueledbycoffee seems to have taken quite a serious (or at least viable) idea and given it a deliberately comical treatment. I found the best approach was to draw all the objects in pencil with a set square and ruler, then hand-draw them over the top with as few strokes as possible (I think simplification is another big idea in this work). The colours are bright and primary, another decision that accentuates the almost childish feel. I have to admit my image doesn't have quite the same brilliance and punch his does because of the different subject matter. I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how this guy would draw a phone (which is, let's face it, a much duller object than lego bricks) - you can judge whether I succeeded!
