BEST RELATIONSHIP.
I am fascinated by this little micro-interaction between them, because it feels like a total reversal of their dynamic so far. They’re both on the same level now so it feels like they should finally be equal, but they aren’t. Amethyst is finally the one getting in Pearl’s space, looming over her as much as she can, and she’s actually angry now. She’s normally just reactionary and spiteful, but now she’s the one lashing out. And it makes sense. If fusion is a synchronisation of who they are as people, this was a vulnerable moment - and Amethyst looked chagrined when she dropped Pearl, but she’s now absolutely refusing to take the blame.
And then Pearl doesn’t argue back at all - she looks away and down and is sad and quiet, like she feels responsible for not being able to adapt to Amethyst’s style (even though Amethyst made no attempt to adapt to hers, either, and seemed to be relishing that in the moment). She doesn’t respond when Amethyst accidentally hits her, but she cringes when she’s shouted at and actually lashes back out - but it looks involuntary, like she got overwhelmed and needed to get Amethyst to back away in the moment. Maybe she does feel bad, maybe this was something she was able to do easily before, and now she can’t open up.
And then they’re kind of back on form with the fighting, but Amethyst’s hand is around Pearl’s wrist and there’s just so much physicality between them that we haven’t seen before. Something about this moment just got to them both. Which makes sense.
Maybe they haven’t attempted to fuse since whatever happened to them happened, and it’s confirmation now that something has actually changed for them. Their relationship really is hurt in ways that are now very tangible and real for the both of them.
YOU CAN’T KEEP DOING THIS TO ME SU. I WON’T ACCEPT THIS ‘EVERYONE SECRETLY HAS BLEAK THOUGHTS ALL THE TIME’ NONSENSE.
Amazing job by the young voice actor. All this fevered, emotional whispering is really making me feel fevered and emotional.
He just leaves it on the floor, demonstrating exactly why a pet rock shouldn’t be an impulse purchase. You’re not just adding some decorative gravel to your household - each rock has an average lifespan of 1.2 million years, and if you bring one into your home you’re committing to meeting their emotional, physical and mental wellbeing for their entire life.
It... makes so much sense???
This is actually truly sublime.
Steven and I have never been more aligned on anything.
