Someone in chat described Steven’s problem as “needing to light himself on fire to keep others warm to feel good about himself”. I wonder how we can work cactus-hugging into an alternate version of that.

see my brain is going “comment on the gems and their reaction to steven’s obvious distress” but my heart is going “hurr hurr amethyst eat dirt”
For those of you who are Steven’s age, don’t worry too too much if you haven’t figured out the direction you want your life to go yet. Life has plenty of twists and turns in store for you, and you can change your path at any one of them. Fifteen years ago, when I was his age, I thought my future was going to be in mathematics. Twelve years ago, I thought my best option was to enlist. (That didn’t last very long.) Seven years ago, I was in college to learn how to work on computers for a living. Five years ago, I was a telemarketer. Four years ago, I transitioned to yelling at cartoons for a living. Who knows where I’ll be in four more? Life takes funny turns sometimes.
No, actually, you haven’t said enough.
The Gems deserve to hear this stuff from you directly, and you need to air your grievances and insecurities before you can start to address them. It’s therapy time, Steven, and boy howdy is it going to be a rough slate of sessions ahead of you.
Besides, the Gems love you. They’ll listen. They’ll be able to help you deal with things.
steven’s a vegetarian now, which means that all of this is food. all of it. he pulls a flower off a bush and just. slowly puts it in his mouth, never breaking eye contact with pearl. that’s just how the vegetarian do
It left him with a reminder: You can bloom, too, if you learn to love yourself.
“Now, listen, guys, I know I’m like, two for twenty on this working out well, but hear me out.”
Awwww. It’s still on his fridge.
