Despite the effects it had this episode, I really like that Sapphire is a hopeless romantic. Love fundamentally changed her worldview, changed her ability to conceive of a worldview. She believes love defies all probability, that it’s the glue that holds reality together, that it always wins in the end.
And she’s right about that, at least. Love won today. Not in a big, flashy, marriage-proposal kind of way, but in a grounded, real way, in the way that Steven and Connie love each other, in the way that she understands him and forgives him his foolishness today. Love wins, today, because Steven and Connie’s love is a quiet suffusion rather than a loud party.
I, obviously, am a huuuuge Conniverse shipper. I want them to smooch and get married and have a happy life together. But this...this episode was painful to watch because Steven and Connie fit so well together. Jumping forward in the relationship like this is a terribly bad move, and the fact that it didn’t scare Connie off is a testament to how much they really do love each other. Watching him with the worry of him blowing it was SO painful.
This is a good ending to the day, though. I like this part.
Ruby and Sapphire each have their own individual lives. I was about to snark that they have their own individual lives now, but, you know? They probably DID have their own individual lives before Rose died. I’m willing to bet that her death was what led to them not unfusing for thirteen years straight, trying to cope with that loss and what it meant for them. They rushed into each others’ arms, so to speak, and didn’t quit that embrace voluntarily until the whole Sardonyx mess happened.
I’m a bit fuzzy on whether the Gems were going on corrupted-Gem-hunting missions before Greg showed up, but I wonder what Ruby and Sapphire did separately at the time. They certainly didn’t have a whole school full of Gems to teach.
it’s not surprising that ruby’s into appreciating wildlife considering the first gift she ever gave sapphire was a frog
It’s a “not now”, Steven. She loves you. She does. It’s unmistakable. It’s fact. She’s not going to leave you behind. She’s not going to let you let her leave you behind. She’s here for you, if you’ll let her be. She’s the person in the world who gets you the best.
And don’t worry, buddy. It’s okay to cry.
“There was no future where you didn’t propose to Connie.” I absolutely believe that.
CONGRATULATIONS CREWNIVERSE YOU’VE MANAGED TO MAKE ME UPSET ABOUT CONNIE SMILING
OH MY GOD THANK YOU I LAUGHED SO HARD
