Yellow crests, loud calls, and the kind of energy that won’t sit still. Macaroni penguins look bold until you peek at what they do underwater. They dive deep for krill and fish, then pop back up like nothing happened. And those colonies? Absolute teamwork, with plenty of noise to match. From sub Antarctic beaches to open ocean hunting grounds, their days run fast. Wait what do their red eyes see when the light disappears?

South Georgia is a magical place, so full of life that just a few hours on shore is overwhelming, in a good way. It is an island southeast of South America and a 2 day sail through the Scotia Sea to the Antarctic Peninsula, one of the most remote places on earth. Here are some photos from my week there this past October. Hope you can experience a little bit of South Georgia through them.
