It gets closer to midnight as I start to feel the effects of the drinks I've had in the past few hours. Everyone else is coupling up for their new year's kisses, and I'm alone. I feel a pang of jealousy as I watch couples dancing and laughing together. My recent breakup had been on my mind all night, cemented there by the fact that he'd broken up with me on Christmas. And now I'm at Cal's New Years' party by myself, drinking away my feelings and praying that nobody notices.
Talia and Freya were the ones who convinced me to get dressed up and come out, and now they're nowhere to be found. I don't blame them, though. If I had someone to share a kiss with at midnight, then I would definitely be in their arms right now. However, it's starting to seem like I'm the only single person in the room.
Someone turns the music down, causing a few people in the room to shout excitedly. Only two minutes left until midnight. I pour myself another drink, some concoction that Harry was undoubtedly responsible for, and glance around the room. With a sigh and one last look at all my friends having fun, I slip away from the crowd and out onto the roof.
I look up into the night sky for a while as I enjoy the peace and quiet. Just as I shut my eyes, someone clears their throat behind me. I spin around quickly and nearly spill my drink. Will, standing only a few feet from me, raises his eyebrows in amusement. I laugh awkwardly and force a small smile as my anxiety gets the better of me.
"S'almost midnight," he says softly, smiling at me.
"I know, I was just enjoying the view," I explain, keeping my voice low despite us being alone. He nods and stares up at the sky for a couple of seconds. A strong breeze blows through and I shiver, moving a little closer to Will.
"It's freezing," he says, quickly taking off his jacket and handing it to me, "here."
"Thanks," I reply, putting the jacket on hurriedly. It's a bit too big for me, but it's super warm and smells like cologne.
Suddenly, the countdown starts. I'm not sure if we can hear everyone inside the flat yelling, or if it's the neighbors too, but it's loud.

"You got anyone to kiss at midnight?" Will asks hesitantly, his eyes trained on the ground.
🌟9🌟
"Nope," I say with a laugh.
🌟8🌟
"Me neither," he replies, turning to look at me.
🌟7🌟
"We could..." I start, not knowing exactly how to phrase it.
🌟6🌟
"If you want..." he says, a small smirk dancing on his lips.
🌟5🌟
My face heats up as I nod slowly, trying to hide a smile.
🌟4🌟
All of London seems to be counting down at once. I start to feel like I'm floating as I lock eyes with Will.
🌟3🌟
His hand brushes my cheek before resting under my chin. He tilts my face up, bringing the two of us even closer together.
🌟2🌟
I put a hand on his shoulder to steady myself as my smile grows.
🌟1🌟
Our lips meet as everyone cheers and fireworks go off around us. Will pulls me closer, and I wrap my arms around him. Slowly, we pull away from the kiss. I rest my head against his chest comfortably.
