3. who/what inspires your graphics/gifs?

usually i get inspired to do things by recognizing patterns, reviewing storylines, or just liking visuals/dialogue from specific scenes. it depends on the type of set that i'm working on. most of the time i picture things in my head and map it out. in this case i may draw little sketches of what i'm thinking of doing before putting things together.

sometimes i'll do prompts to get some ideas, and other times i'll look for tutorials or templates for inspiration (side note: if you use a template provided by a gifmaker, make sure to read and follow their guidelines if they have any (i.e "if you use this like and/or reblog")).

also i take notes while i watch things to help me focus, and that helps me later when i need specific things for sets :)

I get most of my fonts that don't come with Photopea from dafont, but I also have a tag for fonts as well.

21-How much time do you spend on a single graphic / gif?

It really depends on what the coloring process is mostly. If it's something I can color easily/have more experience coloring it doesn't take too long, but if the coloring is very green or dark it can take a while to get the coloring I want. Even then, I may have to recolor it depending on how the set looks together. It's probably under half an hour for the most basic gif with simple coloring, but as soon as you tack on more things to do it'll obviously take longer. I've gotten faster at making gifs now that I'm used to the process but it does take quite a bit of time to make each full set.

32-The least notes a graphic / gif of yours has ever gotten that you feel deserves way more. (Link it!)

I spent a lot of time on my Yakumo and Kinji Fools set, but it does have less than 50 notes, however the Ninninger circle on here is pretty small so it's not very surprising. Also my Beyond Evil set that I spent a lot of time on but it never ended up in the tags, so not a lot of people saw it.

(I have sets with lower numbers, but these two are ones that I spent quite a bit of time on so yeah.)

1-How did you get into graphics / gif making?

I just liked the look of gifs and when I started out I wanted to have specific gifs that I couldn't find. My 9 panel sets that I do every now and then are actually part of this, as my Ankh and Eiji set is one of my earlier sets that I really wanted to get into giffing to make. However, I really got into the idea of making gifs while watching Gaim, even though Kamen Rider OOO made up quite a few of my earlier gifs. One of my first sets was a Gaim set, and I have since remade it, but it's still not perfect (the subtitle coloring is a bit off in spots...).

2-Do you do something creative/related “irl” as well?

Yeah. I knit, embroider, sew, paint, draw, etc. Am I good at any of these? Not particularly, but I live y'know?

5-What do you dislike most about making graphics / gifs?

Coloring can be so difficult and frustrating. It can be especially difficult if a series has coloring inconsistencies or the coloring is generally very green.

I also struggle a lot with being more creative with my gifs. I have a lot of ideas and visions for the types of sets I'd like to make but I always end up playing it safe and sticking to what I know, especially when it comes to gifs with text, I cannot font pair to save my life.

22-What is your biggest improvement since you started making graphics and or gifs?

Coloring. My early gifs are way too pink/red. Here's a Sonoi gif I made in May of 2022 and a quick remake I did for the sake of comparison today. Here's a really good post that helped me improve on my coloring.

Here's a frame of the remake with the old coloring and a frame from the old one with the new coloring to show more of the improvement.

(Note that the quality is different and so is the method of making the gifs so the coloring is not exact on the frame examples)

27-Advice you’d give yourself when you were starting out?

Look into tutorials. There's so many tutorials that are readily available on Tumblr that could really help with improving in areas and learning to do new things. Templates, fonts, resources, and more have been made and provided by other graphic/gif makers and are free to use (follow the proper guidelines set by the creators).

Hi! Mind if I ask what program you make gifs with? Is it something I could pick up the basic use of pretty quick, do you think? (If not necessarily fancy stuff like colour correction)

I use Photopea to make gifs. I think after getting into the swing of things you can create unedited gifs fairly quickly. It's really the editing that takes the most time when making gifs (as in sharpening, coloring, etc.), but importing frames can also take a bit of time as well at times.

I wanted to ask, because now that I have a better set up I'd like to get more into giffing as I have time for it (and I really like how your sets look), what program(s) do you use for it?

thank you! i use photopea and a screen-capping method, so i use kmplayer for that, though there's different options that you can look into if you want.

19. What is your giffing process like?

Once I have an idea for what I'm going to do, the process is pretty simple. My basic process is:

Get the captures needed → Import captures into editor → Fix sizing → Sharpening → Coloring done and watermark added → Export → Might have to fix coloring a few times → Added drafts or posted

The process is obviously different if I'm doing something that requires more work, but this is the basic gif process.

26. How many un-posted sets are in your drafts right now?

126, but I have some that I haven't colored and/or exported yet so there's more sets than just those in my drafts on here. A few need to have the coloring fixed and some are just things I don't want to post yet.

16. How long have you been making gifs?

I started making gifs February 13, 2022, so over a year and a half now.

24. 480p 720p 1080p? What is the minimum quality you’ll gif from?

I think around 480p is usually the lowest I'll go, as it is the best quality that can be found for some series/videos, but I do try to use the highest quality I can get.

42. How is your gif folder organized? Is it organized at all?

It goes: Gifs → Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Non-toku, Misc Toku, and each of these folders has the series within the franchise/category. From there different folders are made for set type. I also keep special folders for each of my ongoing gif series, prompts, multi-series gifs, and crossovers. It's a lot but it works for me.

47. Any advice for novice gif makers/people who want to start making gifs?

Gifs might look darker on mobile than they are on desktop, so keep that in mind when adjusting any lighting in dark scenes

Grouping your adjustment layers into a folder can help a ton when you're coloring, as you can check your coloring to the original and figure out which layers need to be adjusted easily

There's a lot of really good tutorials on here for giffing, so if you're looking for some place to start looking for tutorials might be super helpful

49. How much would you say you’ve improved since you first started giffing?

I like my gifs much better these days than when I first started making them. I think since I've started spending more time figuring out what I want my gifs to look like, especially with coloring. I still have a lot of things I want to fix and learn but I think I've improved a bit.

4. A set that flopped but deserved better?

My Kento and Touma 9 panel set

It didn't really flop in general for the numbers I usually get but it is flopping in comparison to every other set I've done in the same style, including my Hana and Sakura set that I put out after it. Honestly, Saber sets just don't really get traction, but that's not going to stop me from making Saber gifs.

5. What is your favorite movie/TV show to gif?

Kamen Rider Saber and King-Ohger right now, but it changes all the time depending on the ideas and the energy I have.

14. How long does it usually take you to make a set?

It really depends. For a basic 10 gif set that's 540 x 304 it'd take me a couple hours, but could take more time if I'm struggling too much with coloring or don't have the patience. More gifs = more time, so sets with panels usually take quite a bit of time. My 9 panel sets can take up to 9 hours to make. I think coloring really impacts the time it takes, as it does take much longer for me to make sets for shows that I find more difficult to color, such as Ultraman Orb which is very green. I also find getting the captures to make the gifs to be very time consuming as well, most of all when I need to get things from multiple episodes and/or series.
