There was another team that came before him, he was simply there to make sure that no assassin would come before they would be able to properly dispose of all these objects.

Those were the orders given to him.
He pointed his flashlight to every inch of the dimly lit room. He was bored. As one of the key agents in Abstergo, one would expect him to get more exciting ones like those that involve a good hunt. But, given how he was currently not under Otso Berg at the moment, Abstergo decided to use him for less exciting activities.
"Ahhh... Shite. I could use a good drink right about now." He sat on an empty chair and leaned back.
