She felt like someone had just poured cold water over her at the sight of that smile, she couldn’t help the urge that she needed to either run and hide, or follow his command quickly.  She decided obeying would probably result in the least amount of harm to her. The elevator was clausterphobic at best, not roomy enough for one creature, at least one human sized person.  Once the platform came to rest she found herself in a large gray colored room, there were still a few vines clinging to it’s wall, as though it had once been open before, and it had recently rebuilt itself around the greenery.   “Alright….What now?” She called somehow knowing that he would be able to hear here.

For a moment, she was met with silence. That is until the man's voice came on over an innercom. Lights in the room turned on, revealing a simple test chamber with a cube in one corner, and a button in the middle.

"Do you really need my help with that? I thought it would have been obvious... Are humans really that dull?"

Had his voice changed...? It seemed like he'd become more sarcastic, all of a sudden. Strange.

"Come on. Figure it out on your own."

When you joke about something in a video game and it actually fucking happens

She shook her head, but the offer of freedom was far more important to her than cake.  “I…alright…” She nodded, “I…perhaps it’s just me…but I thought the one administering the tests was….female?” She said it and immediately winced as though she wanted to hide in the corner for saying it. 

“Nevermind…” She said softly. “When does testing start?”

He stared at her and actually rolled his eyes. How she knew about her was a mystery to him, but he didn't really care anyway. Let her know. It’s not like it’ll effect the tests any.

“She is... busy at the moment. I will be doing these tests, and many more to come for her.”

Hey, it wasn't a lie.

Now he looked up and grinned at her. The only real facial expression he was capable of. He remembered one of his creators saying something about it being unnerving. He had no idea what they meant.

“Testing will begin shortly. First I must bring you to the first chamber. When you are ready, please enter the elevator.”

And like that, one of the walls opened, revealing a narrow glass elevator. He motioned towards it and tilted his head.

19 chambers? Physics based tests?  She remembered this didn’t she?  But her last attempt at running it hadn’t gone well had they?  

“I….don’t have a choice do I?” She asked standing up, her legs wavering a little.  She was horrified. That much was obvious.

His head righted again and he stepped towards her with heavy, rigid movements. He let out the sound of a sigh, but by now it was apparent he wasn't breathing. 

"Of course you have no choice, Subject. You wouldn't have been picked otherwise. Running is useless. Just get through the testing chambers, and you will be rewarded with cake and your freedom. Is that so much for me to ask?"

He sounded annoyed as he spoke to her, and he was. He goes through all the trouble of stealing a subject from her and the woman is terrifyed of him. Go figure.
