ON A FILK HUNT!

Dear Fellow Internet Olds on Tumblr -

I’m am on the hunt for a Filk called “88 Lines About 44 Mutants” which was a parody of the Nails song “88 Lines about 44 Women.” 

This would have been back in the days of Subreality and Cfan. Where my fellow X-Men olds at? 

Anybody got any leads?

Sadly, in the year and a half since I made that post, I did decide to shut down the Cafe, since it was really just down to me sitting in there. =(  I think once I went six months or so with no one even entering the room, it was time to let it go.

I do still keep the torch going next door in #comicbooks, though for anyone looking for chat.  Still on the empty side, but I figured “comics” in general is easier to sell people on with no needed explanation.

Unreal

Some people here still know me from the IRC channel #SubCafe, a hangout for fanfic writers, back in the day.  I’ve kept that place open for 16 years today, and I’ve long since known this day was coming.

Sitting in an empty chat room for going on five months kinda made me realise, “OKay, it’s finally time to close the doors and move on.”

I’ll still be in #Comicbooks (Come say hi!) but this is closing a huge chapter in my life, since I hung out and/or ran the Cafe for nearly 20 years.  But it was time.  And I’m still open to keeping the channel open if people would actually USE it, but that seems unlikely...

Back when I inherited the channel, I joked that I’d be the last one out the door, never realising how true those words would be, and I always had in my head that I’d write the last Subreality Story.  I never thought that day would come, but I *did* write it a couple years ago and sat on it, because its crap...but I feel it should still be seen, and I posted it, where else?  On LiveJournal, naturally!

Here is an explanation of what the heck the Subreality Cafe is.

From my PERSONAL view, it was the second real internet hangout I crashed into, in the IRC channel #SubCafe, where I met a LOT of people who I am still connected to right here.

I *still* hang out in #SubCafe, which I now run, and onionhighonionandrenown and a few others blink through.  The whole Subreality thing was a big part of my life, and a big bit to blame of why I am here. ;)

You won’t find any fanfic by me in set in Subreality though, because I only ended up writing one fic set there, and it’s about me closing down the Cafe for the last time, since the channel has all but done exactly that.  And it exists nowhere but my own hard drive.

While I jokingly go, “HEY!” at that video, I do smile that, even unknowingly, the concept lives on in some way.

Meanwhile, there’s a chunk of my followers tilting their heads and going NO.  NO IT IS NOT.  IT IS KNOWN AS THE SUBREALITY CAFE.

I am torn between “This is actually really well done and edited amazingly well” and “EXCUSE ME??” ;)

I just wrote a rough draft for a short, short piece I've had in my head for 15 years.

Set in the Subreality Cafe, of all places.  A place that only what is likely a small fraction of my followers even know.  A story I joked with myself I would someday write, and it became really clear that it was long overdue to write my "Last Call", just to get it out of my system.

And now I've made myself sad.
