Yes there is a subreddit devoted to simply the words that come from Mitt Romney’s own mouth. Id like to spend some time giving you an insight to some of these wonderful gems full of misunderstanding, ignorance, and a straight up lack of being able to connect with the common folk.
Mitt Romney on….
BAIN:
“Bain Capital is an investment partnership which was formed to invest in startup companies and ongoing companies, then to take an active hand in managing them and hopefully, five to eight years later, harvest them at a significant profit…”
AIRPLANES:
“When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no – and you cant find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem. So it’s very dangerous.”
LEADERSHIP:
“Well, a leader has to have the capacity to build trust in the people he or she works with. People have to look at that person and say, ‘I may disagree with them, but I know where they stand and I can trust them.’”
CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS:
“I think we’ve got to get the money out of the teachers unions going into campaigns. It’s the wrong way for us to go. We’ve got to separate that.” [Note: Accepts Large Corporate Donations]
NUMBERS:
“When I began this campaign it said it was 15 Trillion [deficit]. I mean what is a trillion? It’s a thousand billions. Its an unthinkable amount!”
PALESTINE:
“[Palestinians] have no interest whatsoever in establishing peace, and that the pathway to peace is almost unthinkable to accomplish.”
HARVARD:
“We have a President who I think is a nice guy, but he spent to much time at Harvard, perhaps.” [Note: Mitt spent one more year there than the President and got two degrees].
MEXICANS:
“My Dad…was born in Mexico… and had he been born of, uh, Mexican parents, I’d have a better shot of winning this.” [Note: Spoken to a group of wealthy donors. Classy]
LATINOS:
“…It would be helpful to be Latino.”
AMERICA:
“I believe in an America where millions of Americans believe in an America that’s the America millions of Americans believe in. That’s the America I love.”
HEART ATTACKS:
“If someone has a heart attack, they don’t sit in their apartment and die.”
WATCHING NASCAR:
“Not as closely as some of the most ardent fans, but I have some great friends who are NASCAR team owners.”
EMOTIONS:
“I’m a normal person. I have emotions.”
GAY PARENTS:
“I didn’t know you have families.”
ANN ROMNEY:
“We… we use Ann sparingly right now so that people don’t get tired of her.”
SAYING THINGS:
“I’m not familiar precisely with what I said, but I’ll stand by what I said, whatever it was.”
ANN COULTER:
“I’m happy to learn that after I speak you’re going to hear from Ann Coulter. That’s a good thing. I think it’s important to get the views of moderates.” [Note: What?]
BIRTH CERTIFICATES:
“No ones ever asked to see my birth certificate.”
HUNTING:
“I purchased a gun when I was a young man. I’ve been a hunter pretty much all my life.” [Note: Hunted twice, once when 15.]
BEING RICH:
“I used to think that becoming rich and becoming famous would make me happy. Boy was I right.”
UNEMPLOYED:
“I should tell my story. I’m also unemployed.”
DETROIT AUTO INDUSTRY:
“I take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry’s come back.” [Note: In 2008, wrote an op-ed entitled “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” where the idea of a bailout would mean the end of the Auto Industry]
THE POOR:
“I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there.”
FEDERAL INCOME TAX:
[Note: I don’t even need to say this one do I? Google 47%]
All the credit for these words straight from the horses mouth come directly from those on Reddit who were diligent enough to dig them up and put them in one place. For those of you that think that the reason Mitt is polling behind is because of some super liberal plot to take him down headline by headline, it’s time to look at his words alone. They are the only things conspiring against him. When you run for the highest office, everything you say and do on the way there is open for interpretation and speculation.
Sadly for Mitt, his worst moments are when he is being the most honest and open. This is what happens when you live a life so disassociated from the majority of the lower and middle class in America. You end up sounding like a bad actor from a bad Sci-fi, made-for-TV movie. I know this article won’t change anyone’s mind in November, especially if you have decided to vote for anyone BUT the President (cause honestly what are your other options if that’s the case?), but that wasn’t the goal. The goal of this post was to make you aware that the reason Mitt isn’t likable, relatable, or polling well, is simply because he opens his mouth.
If I were Paul Ryan, I’d run far, far away from that sinking ship. Penny for his thoughts? Wait… I better not ask.
