unwritten muse — aster lune
Written Word Wednesday
Write a letter to your future child on the eve of his or her graduation or wedding. Include a subtle rhyme scheme of some kind.
(NOTE- this is first rough draft, I'm going to post it because I don't have time to rewrite before midnight.)
To my Eldest Son,
On the evening of your wedding:
I have written a letter to express my joy and to congratulate my little boy. When i helped bring you into this world, I fully understood what I was doing. I knew that I was creating a perilous journey for another life to inhabit. I knew that the night gets dark, and cold. I knew how it felt to watch the shadows dance alone- to trudge along and find yourself stuck by something unknown. I was aware of the disappointments, the degrading, the disillusionment, and I had thought about the decisions you'll be forced to make and the days where the clouds get big while the light fades. I noted the moments and broke them down, seeing how many times you would break down and how many of those times i could build you back up again- carefully stacking the blocks like those times when you were One and I sang the Alphabet Song to you. I wanted to be sure you knew your letters so you could use your words. Unfortunately you took after me and learned to manipulate and destroy before you realized you could command attention and converse inspiration. Like me this realization came with a price and you gladly paid your dues. I have given life to an ancient Hero. One who does what is needed to be sure the right thing is done. My son, I have watched you walk through horrors with a straight spine and swim through terrors keeping your own head above the water. You are a marvel of wonder, wisdom, and strength.
I have spent a lifetime enough for two wondering who you will be and spouting all the bad this world has to offer. I forgot something, I forgot to tell you of love- but it seems as though Love itself has taught you, as it always does. Love precedes time. It is divine, something to be held high and worshiped. Love is the reason we brace our selves when our spines are snapped and learn to float when the waters are rough. Love is sanity shinning through a dimmed sky, a spotlight in a darkened room. It takes no shape or color, and some say is impossible to find. But I have a secret, one Aphrodite whispered to me through a looking glass- Love is everywhere. It is in the eyes of every creature; runs through the veins of every plant; wisps through the waves of water and circles of air; and falls from every sun, moon, and planet; My Son, Love is what brought you to this place and Love is what brought you to me. But Love is complicated. All is not fair in Love and War and I advise to keep your wits about you. Love is a battle worth fighting for. Always remember that the losses are not losses but investments, investments that turn into gains. Gains which every mind holds differently but somehow universally. Love is cause and effect. I am so grateful you found Love. because i forgot to tell you where to look. But i'm glad you initially loved me enough to recognize the love I gave back to you. I'm glad you saw it in your family. I'm thankful you were able to point it out in your friends. And I am ecstatic it stumbled upon you one day during Psychology 101 in a bright yellow sun dress you told me you would never forget.
