Nesta is such an awful character in the previous A Court of Thorns and Roses books, that I wasn't sure how I would enjoy reading 757 pages about her and her journey in A Court of Silver Flames. And yet just like all the other books in this series, I found myself consumed by the need to know more and soon was rooting for Nesta to reclaim herself and to redeem who she was to her loved ones. In the end, this line sums it up so well: "To know that the darkness will always remain, but how you choose to face it, handle it....that's the important part. To not let it consume. I love everything about this book- from the author and her incredible writer's craft to the main character's development. But what I love most about this book is that it taught me that listening to audiobooks IS reading the book. Not only that, but that I personally am much more of an auditory learner than I realized. The first time I read this book, I could only get access to the audio cassette version so I pushed through changing tapes and going on lots of walks to find out what happened next. And to this day, I remember this book so much better than most of my other books because I listened to this book rather read it. For a long time, I refused to read this book because I was so frustrated by the ending of the first book in the series. However, I recently reread the 1st book and found that I wanted to find out what happened to Inej and how could Kaz redeem himself. I really liked the book and how the author continued to develop and build each of the characters into people who I connected with as a reader. What drives a person to succeed? How can one determine the fate of others through their choices? And most importantly, what can keep a crew of misfits together long enough to pull off the most dangerous heist of the century? Through her unique style of switching perspectives, Leigh Bardugo does a fantastic job of portraying each member of Kaz Brekker's crew as well as how they interact together on their heist. Volcanoes have always fascinated me since I was a child. While I didn't pursue it passionately like my other interests, I was curious to see how Volcanoes were formed and their impact on humanity. This book does a phenomenal job of describing the the different Volcanoes and their formation.
