Many believe that good logo design is a judgment call. That there are no rules. Yet it seems reasonable that there are basic principles that, generally, should be followed for a design to be effective.

Sometimes good marketing is about leaving well enough alone; this is not a recipe for complacency, but rather a recognition that doing things just for the sake of doing them can be dangerous. Customers who felt they knew you might suddenly wonder who you are and question whether you are still right for them. Yes, change needs to happen -- but it should be occasioned by the emergence of a better idea, and not simply by the need for change!
