Summary: There were things that Draco did for Harry.
Read on Ao3
Harry didn’t like presents; they made him awkward. He told Draco in whispered, late-night admissions that they reminded him of all the birthdays he never got with people who loved him, that so many of the magical gifts he had received were tied inextricably with death and loss.
Presents made Harry sad, underneath the smile he put on for the people who gave them to him.
But this. This Harry liked.
There were things that Draco did for Harry. Some were unspoken and un-asked for. Some were requested in the same halting way that Harry still approached the things he wanted; quiet and restrained, but still loud enough to quell the noise around them, strong enough to bring Draco to heartfelt, willful observance.
Draco rose later than Harry, so there was never a fresh cup of tea waiting for him on the bedside table when the sun rose, but Draco always bought the posh Duchy Original tea Harry secretly loved, and made sure the box of biscuits never ran low on shortbread or jaffa cakes.
Harry hated gardening, but he adored flowers—he’d stop by the gate every morning and brush his fingers across the lavender and rosemary before he walked to work, and on summer afternoons he’d lie on the lawn and close his eyes and breathe in the scent of roses and honeysuckle. Another left-over from the Dursleys (Draco would deal with them, if Harry ever wanted him to, but Harry had sent him a quelling look the first time he suggested it and that was the last of it).
Harry hated gardening, so Draco took care of it—he grew to love the pruning and weeding, the propagation and the trellises—so that Harry could have his flowers.
There were those things that Draco figured out himself, and then there were the things Harry asked for.
“I’m going to take a bath, wash my back for me?”
“Read that out loud, would you? I like that writer.”
“Do you think you could cut my hair? Still feel a bit weird about letting people at me with scissors.”
Draco had never expected to find this reservoir of accommodation within himself, he never imagined he might like to live with this expectation he now had for himself. He wanted to do these things for Harry, he wanted to predict his needs and assuage them, he wanted to hear his desires and fulfil them.
Harry never demanded anything. Never gave orders. He didn’t need to. They had their understanding.
Draco was happy making Harry happy, and Harry was happy to let him.

Mary Magdalene
Try not to get worried Try not to turn on to Problems that upset you oh Don't you know Everything's alright Yes everything's fine And we want you to sleep well tonight Let the world turn without you tonight If we try We'll get by So forget all about us tonight
Apostles' Women
Everything's all right Yes everything's all right yes
Mary Magdalene
Sleep and I shall soothe you Calm you and anoint you Myrrh for your hot forehead oh Then you'll feel Everything's all right Yes everything's fine And it's cool and the ointment's sweet For the fire in your head and feet Close your eyes Close your eyes And relax Think of nothing tonight
Apostles' Women
Everything's all right Yes everything's all right yes
Judas
Woman your fine ointment Brand new and expensive Should have been saved for the poor Why has it been wasted? We could have raised maybe Three hundred silver pieces or more People who are hungry People who are starving Matter more Than your feet and hair
Mary Magdalene
Try not to get worried Try not to turn on to Problems that upset you oh Don't you know And we want you to sleep well tonight Let the world turn without you tonight If we try We'll get by So forget all about us tonight

Jesus
Surely you're not saying We have the resources To save the poor from their lot? There will be poor always Pathetically struggling Look at the good things you've got! Think while you still have me Move while you still see me You'll be lost You'll be so sorry When I'm gone
Mary Magdalene
Sleep and I shall soothe you Calm you and anoint you Myrrh for your hot forehead oh then you'll feel Everything's alright Yes everything's fine And it's cool and the ointment's sweet For the fire in your head and feet Close your eyes Close your eyes And relax Think of nothing tonight
