I feel like S1-5 was the awesome fanfic everyone talked about. The one everyone had to read, that got rec’d everywhere. And then the author left the fandom and said, sure, play in my universe, so all these mediocre writers got together to keep the fic going and wrote A Sequel. And it was terrible, but the fandom was so invested in the story they kept reading. And then after a while they were mostly grudge reading. Until finally people woke up, thought, what the fuck am I doing, and rage-quit because why the fuck were they reading a sequel not even by the original author that someone posted on ff.net. I wonder if that’s why Edlund quit. He just reached the point where he was so embarrassed by the show he needed to get out. Good on him.
