You didn’t really think he was gonna part with it, did you?

Not all of it, anyway...this shard off the inner casing of the Tesseract was in direct contact with the Space Stone that was locked inside it for an extended period of time.  The last time Loki had access to the Tesseract he managed to extract a shard of the casing, knowing he couldn’t touch the Stone itself, but that the casing would have absorbed some of its energy.

He’s not sure yet what he’s going to do with it, but in the meantime it makes a striking piece of jewelry.
