Hiru recognized her almost immediately, but the teasing comment made it clear who she was without a doubt. There's no way he'd forget their first meeting.

"Read any funny logs at the same time someone's walked into a pole, lately?" He'd ask with a knowing smirk returning the tease right back to her before giving her a more genuine smile. "Good to see ya again, Lara right?" He'd nod to her politely. "What brings ya out to this particular island? Were ya trying to show off how easy it is not to bump into a pole by using me as an example?" He'd offer as one more tease as his smile grew into a wide grin.

How? How did he not notice the pole in his path? And how embarrassing it was to not only smack face first into it, but to also hear laughter nearby. Running into the pole he could handle fine, Hiru was a tough and strong man, a simple pole wouldn't hurt him. However, while his physical body wasn't hurt, his pride absolutely was.

The pirate captain would turn to the woman who clearly had laughed at him but was doing her best, and failing, to make it seem like she wasn't. He did appreciate the effort though.

Hiru would rub his nose and nod to her in response to her question. "Yeah, I'm fine. My pride is hurt more than anything else." He'd chuckle sheepishly with a small smile. "No idea how I didn't see the damn thing." Hiru would turn to jokingly glare at the pole, and then turned back to her.

"Gotta say though that book must have some crazy kinda timing in it's funny/silly bits for ya to read it right at the same time as my little mishap." He'd give a knowing raised brow, and smile. "Must be a good read, huh?"
