A heart to heart, with only one heart [CLOSED]
It had been so long that he'd almost forgotten what it felt like. To be at ease. Truly, at ease. To have his thoughts unburdened by the trauma of all he had been forced to endure for the majority of his life. As well as the fear of the man who caused it. He'd dreamt of what this must have felt like for so long that he still couldn't believe that it was real at times.
Oh, but it was. The power that now coursed through his veins. Through his very soul. Oh, how very intoxicating it was. And what was even more pleasing was the feeling of that wriggling little parasyte in his brain cowering the moment he ascended. As if it knew that it no longer had any real power over him. Any sway over the man he had become. No. The god he had become. Countless sources of worry, all rendered pointless in the face of the Vampire Ascendent.
This was it. This was truly it. He was free now. Free to live as he pleased. Do as he pleased.. Claim what he pleased. Of course, it was thoughts like the latter that didn't sit well with some of his.. 'beloved' friends. One, especially, who had made it abundantly clear how worried she'd been about his plans the moment he revealed them to her. Of course, now that he'd done exactly as he intended, there was no worry anymore. No. He sensed something far different from her.
Well, less 'sense' and more 'see'. She was never one to hide her displeasure. A trait he actually quite enjoyed from her. Despite his less than honest nature, her bluntness and aversion to letting people off easy had always been a treat. He never was fond of goody two shoes who were kind to a fault. That's why she and Karlach were the few exceptions whom he'd come to so adore. Between her straightforward nature and Karlach's eagerness to put anything she disapproved off six feet deep.
In this case, however..
❝ You've been giving me your patented 'Stare of Disapproval' from the moment we left Cazador's Palace. And while I do so enjoy having your.. undivided attention.. It's beginning to become a tad irksome seeing you stare at me with such thinly veiled loathing. So if you have something to say, then just say it. I would have assumed we've long passed the point where we can be honest with one another, no? ❞
