Indeed I say the second looks better. The more dynamic values more readily draw my attention though I do see why you like the washed out look of the first one. Go with the second, but mess with the tones for fun and see what you like.

Your values are good. The fact that you use more that 3 tones of colors in great as it gives it more depth. It's really important for any sort of black and white image that uses more than 2 tones. I would have said this on twitter, but word limits :p

The word limit always screws me up on twitter :P but thank you, I appreciate that a lot! After looking at it for so long it’s kind of hard for me to judge it myself.

Favourite anime: Eeehh...I read more manga than I do watch anime since it’s so much faster for me to get through, so I’ll list Rokka no Yuusha here since the manga hasn’t been translated all the way yet.
