sushi time
bonus comparison with his mom and sister :)
> You feel restless.
> You slip through an alley, dragging your hand along the wall as you go. In truth, you’ve felt restless since you lost your eyesight and started living with your ancestor, but you’re at a point where you can start roaming on your own.
> You don’t know what to do with yourself. You feel like you aren’t doing enough, somehow.
> You pause, realizing you’ve come to the end of the alley, and it’s now opening into a street. Someone’s running along the sidewalk, and you expect them to just run by you-
> -Except they turn into the alley and crash right into you.

sushi has eyes again
it took a lot of work from pheira, akidis, and himself, having to remove the scar tissue in his eye sockets and then he had to make and install the eyes himself (with some help from pheira and akidis again)
he lives a little further in the mountains than akidis now. he sometimes dares to venture into the nearby town for supplies, otherwise he visits akidis to pick them up or she brings them to him.
Lonnen was glad to have a bed to sleep in again.
It had taken some convincing, but [REDACTED] agreed that for his safety and comfort, he should stay with the three ceruleanbloods- Suhari, Pheira, and Akidis. They could, simply saying, take care of him better than [REDACTED] knew how. Her understanding of a troll’s needs was simple, primitive.
Suhari had tended his wound, and Akidis and Pheira had healed it. Pheira used blood magic to clear the infection from his body, and Akidis soothed the pain and sealed the wound entirely. Suhari had then taken measurements of his natural arm without explanation, but Lonnen saw him tinkering away on a prosthetic.
Suhari was quiet, awkward, and Pheira was frighteningly intense, but all three of them were so kind. None of them knew precisely what was going on; Not even [REDACTED] did, but they all still went out of their way to help him, a total stranger.
Lonnen did his best to help- But one arm down and still recovering from the loss of the limb, he couldn’t do much.
Suhari finished his new limb in what Lonnen thought was record time, only just forty-eight hours. Suhari only shrugged.
He and Pheira sat Lonnen down to attach the limb, Pheira helping guide Suhari and numbing Lonnen’s nerves while the base was attached. Akidis was in the same room- The hive was tiny, and there were few places to work, so the three of them were at the dining table while Akidis worked in the kitchen.
Akidis’ head suddenly snapped up, and Pheira looked up as well. Akidis set down the dish she had just picked up, her movements tense. Suhari stopped too, and the three of them waited, silent. Lonnen tried to tune his own senses, but he couldn’t hear or sense anything.
“What is it?” He dared.
“Something’s coming.” Pheira said. She had only just straightened when something crashed through the window and clattered against the ground. A rock, Lonnen thought at first.
Suhari flinched, bringing his hand up to his mouth and sinking his fangs into his palm. He jerked his hand outwards, blood splattering over what Lonnen realized was some kind of grenade, and then shifting to coat it just a half-second before it went off with a bang. Lonnen flinched- But the explosion seemed to be completely negated by the blood.
At the same time Suhari moved to the front door, jamming his shoulder against it to keep it shut as someone outside slammed against it to get in. “The back door!” He snarled. Akidis was already raising her hand, a light glowing at her fingertips. Glowing barriers appeared over the doors; Pheira slashed her palm open with a dagger and coated the windows in cerulean blood with a single gesture.
Suhari backed away from the door, and unceremoniously grabbed Lonnen, hauling him onto his shoulders. They could hear banging from both doors, and slamming against the windows.
“That was a flash bang,” growled Suhari. “They’ll have us surrounded.”
“Do you know who they are?” asked Pheira, stepping over to Akidis’ side.
“The Fleet, most likely, or trained legislacerators. Coming after me, maybe. We need to get out of here.”
Pheira knelt to draw a circle on the floor in her blood. “I’ll send you to my manor.”
Akidis had just opened her mouth to speak when a voice came from the door.
. . . .
S H A T T E R .
A boot smashed through both the door and the barrier. Akidis collapsed, and Lonnen shrieked and began to struggle as he realized just who was coming through the door. The seadweller.
“Suhari! Grab Akidis!” Barked Pheira, darting to get between the seadweller and Suhari. Suhari did as he was told, bolting to haul his ancestor onto his other shoulder, firmly holding Lonnen, and then he stepped onto the ring Pheira had drawn.
Her magic activated, and the three of them vanished.
The wind and rain could heal the soul- But they could not stop the course of infection, of a weak body strained from blood loss. Despite her best efforts, [REDACTED] was not a healer.
She murmured apologies in her own tongue, guttural clicks and chirps as she brushed Lonnen’s sweat-soaked bangs from his eyes. He was in so much pain he couldn’t sleep, his wound aching, his body weak and sore from fever. He tossed and turned and moaned in pain when he tried to move the limb that was missing.
[REDACTED] didn’t know who she could trust, now. Who might be able to save this boy, who wouldn’t sacrifice him for the greater good. It was a worthless struggle now- A rabbit struggling in the jaws of a wolf. There was potential for freedom if the rabbit kicked hard enough- But it would break it’s own leg, flee and then die alone from shock, and the wolf would follow the scent of blood.
She protected him only so she would not be alone. She knew that much herself. Her one, truly selfish action.
A branch snapped and [REDACTED] raised her head. She could smell other trolls. She stood, spreading her wings and baring her teeth in preparation for the intruders.
Three trolls stepped out of the trees, the third holding back. The two women that approached her stopped a respectful distance away, and bowed. [REDACTED] could smell the magic on all three of them, but more than magic, she could tell that they had both seen many sweeps. Half as many as her, and that made them closer to her than their modern children.
“Forgive our intrusion,” said one of the two, a demure ceruleanblood with her hair covering one eye. All three seemed to be related, sharing a caste and horn shape. The other woman simply kept her head down, but [REDACTED] could tell her mind was whirring along as she took in every little detail here.
[REDACTED] closed her mouth and lowered her wings, still partially open to indicate her trepidation.
“What do you seek?” She asked.
“We are unsure,” answered the woman. “Each of us felt something calling us here.”
[REDACTED] knitted her brow, looking over her shoulder at Lonnen. It was her own presence that had brought them here, not his, but it was indication enough that she was right. They could run, but they could not hide. And she alone could not save him.
“Both of you,” [REDACTED] said. “Walk with me.”
She could sense no ill intent out of the three of them. She turned to walk out of the clearing, and the two women followed. The third, a younger man with his eyes scarred shut, approached Lonnen hesitantly; [REDACTED] could feel his magic probing her, seeking answers, and she did the same, but otherwise ignored him. She could tell that he wanted to ease Lonnen’s pain.
--
Lonnen felt different hands this time. Somewhat clumsy and calloused, but gentle and slow, swiping his face with a cool cloth and unwinding the bandages [REDACTED] had put on his arm. The wound had not been stitched, partially healed with what magic [REDACTED] could divert to the task, pressed with herbs, and bandaged.
“This will hurt,” a low voice said, quiet and calm. “Bite down on this.”
Lonnen did as told- But he still cried out and fought when the pain came, searing and sharp in the stump of his missing arm. Those rough hands pressed on his shoulder and chest, gentle but firm, they held him down and a voice spoke softly, soothing him. Once Lonnen had calmed down, the pain started again, but he was lucid enough to understand that the troll was trying to help. Stitching the wound so he wouldn’t bleed further.
Once the wound was stitched, he was gently sat upright and given some cool water. The man at his side silently wound bandages around his chest to wrap up his shoulder.
“Who are you?” Asked Lonnen, his voice just a croak.
“Suhari.” The man answered.
Suhari was blind, his eyes scarred shut. His hands were heavily scarred, roughened; Lightning-shaped scars branched across his chest and neck; There wasn’t an inch of skin Lonnen could see that hadn’t been previously injured.
His gaze turned from Suhari to the empty clearing. “Where’s..?”
“She went to talk with my ancestor and sister.”
Lonnen hesitated, and then curled up, and Suhari lay his arm across Lonnen’s back to rest his hand on his uninjured shoulder. Kind though this action was, Suhari seemed kind of uncomfortable about it.
“Why are you helping me..?” Lonnen asked.
“You’re hurt.”
“Is that all?”
“Yes.”
“Is it because of-..? That woman..?”
“No. She lead us to you. But I would have helped anyway.”
Lonnen curled up further, resting his face on his knees. He heard Suhari sigh softly, and pat his shoulder.
How about a platonic kiss of Akidis kissing Suhari?
mom gotta give her son a kiss before she leaves to pick up groceries
