March 23 - On this day in 1931, Indian revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar were executed by British colonial authorities for having assassinated a British colonial officer.
As they marched towards the gallows, they reportedly chanted, “Down with British imperialism!” and “Down with capitalism!”. They were just in their early 20s and sacrificed their lives fighting for India's freedom. Their actions and subsequent execution by the colonial regime inspired many and made them revered figures in the Indian struggle for freedom against the British Empire. [link]/[link]
