hi! could i request for headcanons of bakugo and todoroki (separately) finding out reader (classmate) is his soulmate when her mark throbs when shes terribly injured during usj? and hes been pretty cold to her too esp since shes usually so bubbly! thank you so so much for taking the time to write!! ily
Bakugou:
The boy had never really paid attention to you. In all honesty, his one track mind could get him into trouble. Most of the time he forgot about soulmates as a whole, the fleeting glances of his tattoo the only thing that reminded him of the perfect person for him.
However, there were times Bakugou felt himself terribly infatuated with you, but whenever the feeling of affection settled in he turned the other way.
You always tried to talk to him too, and the only response he’s ever bother to give you was a snide remark and disregard to the way your smile fell.
Perhaps it was his stubborn personality or carelessness toward any sort of emotional bond, but whenever you got close he mistook the hot feeling for annoyance; dislike. There was no way he could get himself to admit he had any feelings for you at all.
However, all of that changed when he saw you on the ground at USJ, horribly battered and covered in wounds.
That’s when reality came crashing down on him, that’s when his tattoo started vibrating wildly, and he knew that was when yours did too.
No matter how hard Bakugou tried to remain positive and level headed, the worst thoughts flooded into his mind. You were going to die, he could’ve protected you, you were supposed to be the most important person in his life. And he never paid you any mind.
“Y/N! Y/N! Get Y/N to safety, that’s my soulmate you motherfuckers! Get ‘em out of here right now before I blow your fucking head off!” Was basically what he screamed the entire time, when the villains had left and the students became nothing but a pity case and a rescue mission.
He’d spend every moment he could with you in the hospital, whether you were awake or not. Bakugou wasn’t a guilty man, and yet that was all he could feel as he watched the slow rise and fall of your chest, or when he peeked at the inflamed skin around your soul mark.
Once you were awake, Bakugou was a mixture of happiness and fear. You were okay, but what if you hated him now? He couldn’t even blame you.
“Listen carefully because I don’t say this shit often. I’m sorry for being shitty toward you, and I hope we can move on. I’ll be the best fucking soulmate you could’ve ever dreamed of, you hear?” He’d ask confidently, the shakiness of his voice letting you see through his facade completely.
Nonetheless, you would agree to start anew, happy that he’d finally come to his senses.
Todoroki:
Todoroki had never been inherently mean to you, but that didn’t mean he was a saint. He could tell you held some sort of infatuation toward him, and instead of being nice he tried to ignore you whenever he could.
It was something he did subconsciously. Whenever you came his way he’d divert his path. Whenever you engaged in conversation, he’d give you short, clipped answers.
Todoroki always took his feelings for you to be nothing more than polite at best, you were just an acquaintance, a classmate. Similar to Bakugou, he probably didn’t want to come to terms with the way he felt because then everything would be too real.
However, everything had already gotten too real when the whole thing at USJ happened. It got too real when he saw you being brutally beaten by some villains.
Most importantly, it got way too insanely real when he got close to you to make sure you were alright, only to feel his soul bond throbbing. Even in your almost unconscious state, he knew you felt it too.
Unlike Bakugou, Todoroki was able to keep himself level headed throughout the entire situation no matter how freaked out he was on the inside. He made sure you were carried to safety.
The only time Todoroki let himself go was when everyone was gone, and he realized everything that had happened. He’d treated you poorly, until it was too late. There was a possibility you’d never spring back to the way you were before, and the though felt like a hot knife through his heart.
During the first couple of days was when Todoroki knew your classmates and family would visit you, so he waited. He waited until it was probably too late again, but in his mind late was better than never.
When he walked into your room, you were still out cold. He felt horrible that even though you were brutally injured, he felt like you were beautiful. In his mind he didn’t have the right to think those things anymore.
“I’m sorry, Y/N. It took too long for me to realize how I felt for you, and I turned you away. It was cowardly of me, being afraid of something that could’ve been great.” He’d say, believing you were still asleep.
When he heard a shift and he looked up to see you smiling weakly at him, he knew you’d heard everything. Part of him was mortified, the other part of him confused as to why you hadn’t angrily asked him to leave.
“Why ‘could’ve’? I’ve always been one for second chances, you know. Let’s have a go at the whole soulmate thing, Todoroki.”
