Summerslam Review

So we’ll start off with the kickoff show.

Loved Baron just coming in and interrupting. More of that please.

Casaro vs. Sheamus was surprisingly hard hitting and enjoyable. And I think its a good idea to have Cesaro chasing after the wins for this best of seven series.

The Sami Zayn/Neville match was two fold in purpose. Number one, I think they are teasing a Dudley Boyz breakup and Number 2 they wanted the crowd pumped via Zayn’s theme song. A good match that really showcased the face team.

The 12 man tag match. I like that it served a story purpose with the Usos stealing the win. Everyone looked good and Breezango and Alpha are still my faves. Just have them trade the new tag belts back and forth.

Regular programming:

Enzo and Cass vs. Owens and Jericho. The argument could be made that the face team should have won in their hometown, but I can’t really argue with how the match turned out. It was excellent and Enzo and Cass were super over. This means the feud continues and Owens and Jericho are sooooooo gooood working off of each other I’m actually excited for it.

The women’s Title match. Super amazing match. For Sasha to be hurt and still put on that level of a match was great. Charlotte looked amazing and really brutal in the way she fought and I’m actually excited to see where it goes next which I have some ideas about. But I hope Sasha has a speedy recovery and I look forward to late September when she makes her return. As far as where I think they go next? Bayley comes out tonight on RAW and avenges her friend. It makes sense for her to be on RAW since Nikki is officially on Smackdown.

IC Title match. Not much to say about this one. It didn’t feel like a pay per view match. Felt like it could have been an episode of Smackdown. Maryse didn’t even really distract Apollo for the dusty finish. Apollo is good, but needs more character development. Miz is the best true heel in the business right now and whoever beats him is gonna get a huge pop. Match was underwhelming after getting used to the matches that we had after wrestlemania for it.

John Cena vs. AJ Styles. HOLY DADDY. This match was amazing. Anyone who says John Cena can’t wrestle can shut the fuck up. It takes two to make a wrestling match and him and AJ put on a clinic. Cena passing the torch tonight was much needed and made me very happy. The guy that should have won did and John got a standing ovation from the crowd, even those who booed him. I was rooting for AJ so hard and this match was everything that I wanted.

The Tag Team Titles. Okay this one was just dumb. The match was lackluster in general. Jon Stewart, who I like, made it worse. Then Big E came out of nowhere for no reason. Why didn’t he just come down with them at the start? Very confusing and The Club should have won the titles. Maybe they do tonight on RAW? Hopefully.

Ambrose vs. Ziggler. The crowd was exhausted and dead from the Cena/Styles match which didn’t help this match. It was very average. Something that they both could have done on Smackdown. It didn’t help either of the men improve their stock. I barely saw any emotion from dolph and Ambrose trying to act like a heel to get in his head wasn’t going as well as he maybe thought it was. It was distracting from the match and ultimately it was one of the lesser matches on the card.

The 6 woman’s tag. For a match with no traditional build up it was very good. The crowd were just starting to get back their wind and all 6 ladies performed well. Naomi’s entrance really helps with that. Was expecting a bigger pop for Carmella in her home town, but oh well. Huge Pop for Becky. I like how they continued with the Eva Marie thing. That has become incredibly entertaining. I did not expect Nikki. I was expecting Maryse or Nia Jax. I figured that Nikki would get a huge baby face pop and would be lost on the heel team. I was right, cause I always am :P. The crowd was very confused on booing and cheering because of Nikki. In a backstage interview she gave a very baby face style promo so we’ll have to wait to see what she does. It was a good match, I especially liked that line up jumping kick combination Becky did. it was humorous the way she pulled it off yet still looked devastating, The match was good that could have been a bit better when the crowd wasn’t so confused. Welcome back Nikki though! I’m excited to see what she does on Smackdown with that incredibly amazing women’s division. All the women on there look like real players for the title. Nikki’s new finisher was awesome and just needs a name!

Universal Championship Match. Okay first we gotta talk about the belt. It doesn’t look good. I don’t think it looks as bad as the crowd was saying, but it doesn’t look good. The name kinda screwed it from the start and I think the crowd would have booed everything unless it was one of the old belts. I was angry that the crowd spent about 10 minutes of the match booing the belt and not paying attention to the quality match happening in the ring. It was a good match. Seth’s ring gear was good and Finn’s Demon king make up was on point. I’m glad they didn’t have Finn kick out of the pedigree. But overall a really strong match. Then the crowd booed because Finn had his title and the title looked bad. So the belt really killed the hype behind a really good match. 

US Title Match. What. The. Fuck. I was actually really into Reigns and RuRu’s feud going into this. I was finally becoming a Reigns fan. Then they go and pull this shit on me. He shaved the beard, then there was no match, which would have been a good match. I just was really disappointed in the booking. Cause Reigns finally had some steam for me to like him and creative just caused him to lose it.

Brock vs. Randy. I took a piss break for this match. Brock Lesnar is the most boring wrestler I’ve ever watched. He shouldn’t have gone on last, then again in my personal opinion he shouldn’t have even been on the card. The match was slow and boring, the announcers didn’t sell the RKO or the kick out. And then for no reason, because it wasn’t a long or particularly hard fought match for Lesnar, he decides to take his gloves off and Roid out. (Probably took them before the match backstage) Just so people know, he was supposed to bust Randy open like that. It was planned, Randy just bled a lot more than was planned. It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t entertaining, it was boring and weird and the crowd booed the shit out of him and demanded Goldberg to come and save us. I hope Brock gets suspended or whatever for attacking Shane and I hope I don’t have to see him for several months.
