The UFC vet comes in and beats Inaba in her PFL debut. Stops a 3 fight skid. Had Inaba badly hurt too, something Dakota Ditcheva couldn't manage. Knocked Inaba down in the 2nd and sold out hard for the finish. Inaba managed to survive. And as she is want to do, she spent all of round 3 coming forward trying to take da Silva out. Couldn't manage it against a tired opponent but did take the round (only on one judge's card). 2-1 da Silva.

I knew people were looking for the highlight reel KO but it did not materialize. Instead, we got Ditcheva just styling on Inaba for 3 rounds. Props to Inaba for demonstrating some other worldly toughness as she ate north of 150 power shots, including knees, elbows, kicks, etc. All clean as hell. But she kept pressuring forward. Forcing Ditcheva back into the cage. Sadly for Inaba, she didn't have any skills to capitalize. It seems like the idea was to push her back and attack the body with punches but Ditcheva's clinch skills shut down that route. Ditcheva would catch the head when her back touched the cage, double collar tie, and then pull Inaba off to the side before laying in with knees or elbows. And that was the rhythm of the fight for its entirety. Ditcheva unable to finish Inaba despite wracking up so much damage on her.
If I'm Ditcheva's team, I'm paying attention to how much space she was willing to concede to Inaba's pressure and working on that. Always try to take something away to work on. I know Ditcheva told her team her hand was hurt. Hopefully it's not too bad and she's back out there this fall for another fight. She's too young to be fighting once or twice a year. Keep her active. Run up her record and build some highlights.
As for Inaba, gutsy showing. Think that'll earn her good will and line her up for a fight more in her experience wheelhouse. Would love to see her against someone like Paulina Wisniewska or Kana Watanabe.

Sumiko Inaba vs Mackenzie Stiller | Bellator San Diego
Sumiko Inaba (8-1) did not get to partake in this year's PFL flyweight tournament. The Hawaiian, who has fought her entire career under the Bellator/PFL umbrella, will instead get the opportunity to face last year's winner.
Inaba will take on Dakota Ditcheva (14-0) this Saturday (July 19) in the co-main event of PFL Africa 1: Cape Town 2025.
