August 9, 1922 Outbursts of Everett True by A.D. Condo

Oh, what did Everett say in the last panel? Uh... "hot." He definitely said "hot." Absolutely that and not another word with an extra letter, no sirree.

[ID: Everett True sits on a park bench, resting from the heat. His suit jacket rests on the armrest on the right. He fans himself off with a hand fan in his right hand, in his left, he holds a handkerchief to sop up his sweat. A man walks up to him, doffs his straw hat and daubs his own forehead with a handkerchief. /end] Passersby: Gee, Everett, this HEAT!!

[ID: Everett tosses the man out of frame to the left. We see only Everett's throwing arm and a bit of the man's face and arm as he flies off. /end] Everett: Yes... ain't it h[rest of word obscured by tree branch] Note: The last portion of the sentence in the above balloon may be the word "hot." That would seem to be the sense intended to be conveyed.

July 27, 1922 Thimble Theater by E.C. Segar: "Perpetual Motion."

[ID: Castor stands uneasily out in the hot sun, fanning himself off with a hand fan. /end] Castor: Gee, but it's hot. I'd roast if I didn't fan myself.

[ID: A snake slithers up towards him. /end] Castor: Gosh, what a big snake. They always come out on a hot day.

[ID: Castor turns away from the snake, whose tail is rattling angrily. He points at the creature while calling out to someone off-panel right. /end] Castor: Hey Hamgravy, come look. I killed this snake and its tail is still wiggling.

[ID: Hamgravy struts up happily. Castor starts thinking, pleased. /end] Hamgravy: Castor, don't you know that when you kill a snake, its tail wiggles 'till the sun goes down? Castor: Idea.

[ID: Castor ties the fan to the dead snake's wiggling tail and lies back on the trunk of a tree while the tail fans him off. Hamgravy looks on, stunned. /end] Castor: This is the life.
