unrecommendation: a lesson in vengeance by victoria lee. i have never felt more enraged by a book before, and not bc i was supposed to feel that way. it was just ridiculously poorly plotted and paced, with the author building up multiple mysteries and points of tension only to completely fail to resolve them in the most insulting and anticlimactic ‘twist’ a narrative could possibly have. -2/10, the author thought she was so much smarter than the reader and the token poc representation was just there to teach the main character about racism.

what a shame that it doesn't live up to its banger of a title! also wow there are some truly scathing goodreads reviews for this one. it has been ripped 6 new ones

Well we just started playing last week, so this week will be my first time on level 2, thus my first time being able to shift lol. But I’ve chosen a tiger for my first combat animal. Our DM Cory actually bought a mini for it, though in the world we’re playing in, the animal looks slightly different than a tiger (more fur around the face, and browner instead of orange) and is called a Torama, or Elven Hunting Cat. Same stats as a tiger though. I’m super pumped! Gonna maul some bad guys!

Ahhh, thanks!  I’m glad to hear it wasn’t just too boring/technical - I think seventeenth century debates about Scripture (and, at a more fundamental level, how we know the things we know in all fields - legal, political, doctrinal, ecclesiological, scientific, etc.) are fascinating, but I do know people’s eyes tend to glaze over a bit, so I really appreciate hearing that you enjoyed it!  And solidarity as a fellow Boston-area history lesbian, ofc - hope you’re weathering the storm well.

And yes, both to you and any new followers who want to shoot the breeze about history/method - historiography and thinking about why and how we do history is literally my single favorite thing (I mean - my blog title is a Quentin Skinner reference! <3), so I’m pretty much always down to talk/would definitely love any messages that come my way about history (although upfront heads that I may take a bit to respond, just because I really am thesising right now)! =)

i'm at the university of sydney right now and it's pretty great. good programs, great people, and the city is like a cross between san francisco and new orleans. also you can pet the kangaroos, which is wild.
