something super fun about unlearning religion & the thoughts, actions, and behaviors that stem from growing up in organized religion is realizing that religion, especially catholicism, is so deeply ingrained in the fabric of our society that "separation of church and state" is actually a laughable concept. american social norms go hand in hand with religion. our entire system of morals and ethics, who and what we consider to be "good" or "bad" is puritan. it's pervasive. we like to think of this era of humans as "evolved" but we still kill, maim, starve, and conquer in the name of a so called god. we are no different than crusaders of the middle ages or the anicent romans before them. we've just found less direct ways to do it.
