Hi! I love your art and your football au, and I've never cared much about sports, but now I kinda want to start watching football. Any ideas where I should start?? (You're a great inspiration to me btw, never stop <3)
Alright, I’ll see if I can give a rundown here. Not meaning to sound condescending or anything, but for the sake of informing, I’ll start from zero. First of all, start asking yourself if you have the time to follow a sport team regularly or have paid cable that stream sport channels such as FOX Sport, ESPN , NBC Sport. Easy access is key! Check your schedule!
I’d recommend the Premier League and Bundesliga since more people get NBCSN/FS1/FS2 than BeIN if that’s an issue. If you want to support a European team that’s great, but maybe pick someone with a connection to yourself, even a slight one.Watch it ! Don’t rush to pick a team, try to watch a variety of leagues and teams and just enjoy the match. Some people will say that you need to develop a deeper understanding of tactics , club finances and sport law to watch football. Nah, no, don’t care about that, you just enjoy the game for yourself, don’t be too serious. Find a football site to follow the news once you have picked a league and a team. Keeping it up with the drama and soap opera. For me it doesn’t take me that long to get into football, it just like any fandom. It has meme, inside jokes, gay ships, fan services, whatever, etc…and it only took me a month from a casual viewer to a miserable git. To really get into football, you need a club that gives you glory and misery equally. It is a good combination.
May favourite thing about being a football fan is that sometimes I sport random football crest out there and it’s like an easter egg irl.
IF you’re American, most of your exposure to football will have been through the World Cup. International football is played throughout the year, with international breaks being worked into the league systems, which is contested by club teams. Most major leagues work on a August-May league season. If you have any questions, feel free to message me!
