the    instruction    was    SIMPLE    AND    CLEAR:     stay    behind    him    no    matter    what.    DILIGENCE    ,    however    ,    in    following    said    instruction    ,    only    lasted    for    a    couple    of    minutes.    when    the    infernal    was    about    an    arm’s    length    before    them    ,    INSTINCT    prompted    her    feet    to    run    away    in    the    complete    opposite    direction.    had    it    not    been    for    her    impromptu    act    ,    she    wouldn’t    have    been    chased    and    followed    by    the    demon    AND    it    would’ve    been    much    easier    for    the    captain    to    take    it    down.    REGRET    couldn’t    have    weighed    any    heavier    on    petite    shoulders    when    the    chaos    subsided.    it    was    only    with    the    gentle    and    comforting    pats    on    her    back    that    she    gained    the    courage    to    speak    up    once    more.    ❛    i - i’m    sorry    i    ran    off    like    that .    .    .    the    fire    was    just    so    big    i    really    thought    it    was    going    to    burn    us.        ❜

it would be a lie to say his words didn’t land harder than intended     ( no woman wanted to hear that after all )     but in the time alina has spent in asakusa ,     she’s grown more accustomed to the captain’s brazen nature     &.     understood there was no malice behind his statement .     it was the truth ,     pure     &.     simple .     one couldn’t keep up appearances after running themselves ragged taking care of the injured .

“  i imagine i do ,  ”          she agrees with a weary laugh ,      plopping herself down on the closes bench she could find .     relief floods her system instantly     &.     she can’t help her small relieved breath as her aching muscles slowly begin to relax .     when was the last time she even sat down ?     too long if her sore feet were any indication .     but that was alina in a nutshell ;     her patient’s well - being first     &.     her own second  ——  &.     her appearance even less of a priority .          “  it’s hard to find the time to keep myself looking presentable ,     when i have so many patients to take care of .  ”
