Slow Train Comin'-
How long must the same lie be told before it becomes the truth, before the events surrounding the lie conspire to make the lie appear true? It’s like a slow train coming. You sense its approach from miles away, measure the beat of its rumbling beneath the soles of your feet. Live for years in full knowledge of its movement, the tempo of the train’s rhythm riding up and down your spine to remind you of its proximity.
Yet you elect consciously to stand firm once the lie reaches your ear vowing to never step aside despite the weight of that train bearing down on you, the lie threatening to consume the whole of your existence. Neither do you blink or flinch recognizing how this would give up the lie, would draw attention to all those blameless faces going around living the lie like it was gospel truth, placing you at odds with everyone to have perpetuated the lie before you.
Instead, you adopt the same unwitting stance and let that train keep rolling on you, knowing full well the power it possesses with its locomotive to crush everything you hold dear. After enough time pretending, the lie lurking behind the slow blink of your eyes turns true claiming your existence among the shattered ruins of those to have fallen in the train’s path before you. Given enough time, it may come to pass that the real truth, about which no one ever dare speak, never did exist. ___________________________________________
