It came without warning. The assassin of emotions and shatterer of wills had stricken again. This time it had scored a fierce fatality upon the relationship of the Seer and the Lion. What was meant to be a few hours of mental recuperation and deciphering of personal feelings became a war of venomous curses shouted at each other. Stubbornness was mostly to blame and pride another margin of the hostility that sliced through their fortified truths like sharpened knives against silken threads.
The silver band she had pulled from her thumb remained on the floor once she had left. The slam of the door was the echoing crash that repeated constantly and her rebuttal about leaving pounded like a hammer against the drum of his ear. The thought had not crossed his mind, but with the way she had spewed those wretched words had left a bitter crater within him. They had gone into their unity knowing the flaws of the other, knowing that hurt was inevitable, that what they were doing was forbidden, and yet they had tried to make it work against all the odds.
The Lion remained seated within his workshop in the dark. The light had gone with her and the inner walls now mirrored what he felt within. He could take physical pain. He could bear the weight of natural fatigue and exhaustion. What was now boiling within was far from either of those. Confidence had been crushed and for a man who refused to accept regret; he was now vulnerable to that very reality.
It had all begun over the roaring lion pendant that Neeka had got him as a gift. A place to keep his dog tags and a means to remind him that his inner humanity still had a place here. The first line of regret had set off a series of backlashes that further demolished him from within. He could have violently taken out his frustrations on everything else around him, but it would not have done him any good. It would not serve to alleviate any of that true aggression that plagued him. Besides, he had done enough damage as it was.
All he wanted at this point was to shut it all out. He wanted to become numb to it all. What had served to be a distraction with lust and thrill was now the very creation of this downward spiral. The could haves and should haves brought him to close his eyes. The pendant that the redhead had gifted him now rested before the heat of the flames with the silver band of the Seer entangled within the hard silver chain. His linkpearls were also set on the short shelf nearby them.
He pulled his mask down and tossed it to the side as he eyed the code words that settled on the back. A tattooed thumb ran over the engravings with a soft gliding motion. The temptation of returning to a state of being where he simply did not have to feel any of the current emotions had begun to sound more inviting with every pass. It could take away these heartfelt aches and ease the internal complications his lack of serum was producing.
All he needed was just someone to read those command scripts and he could easily find someone to do that for a handful of gil. It was not worth to be himself if those within his kingdom were suffering. In the mind of the Lion, there was no room for regret in his life and weakness was a sure way to fall. He wasn’t going to take everyone else with him when he wasn’t strong enough or intelligent enough to prevent a tragic turn of events.
