The Sunken Hum Broadcast 60 - Waiting for the Train at Dromod Station - 1 March 2013 Waiting for the train to pull up at Dromod station. This is the 60th Broadcast of The Sunken Hum, my daily sound diary for 2013.
The Sunken Hum Broadcast 30 - Royal Deluxe Clanking - 30 January 2013
I bought my Royal Deluxe typewriter for about 3 dollars in New Orleans way back sometime ago. When I was bringing it over to Ireland on the plane, the woman at the security gates checkpoint asked me if it was my laptop. She neither seemed the sort to have a funny bone nor a sharp wit so I think she may have been serious....hmmmm...... I've been using typewritten words for a zine I'm working on. This is the sound of me typing away. This is the 30th broadcast of The Sunken Hum, my sound diary for 2013.
The Sunken Hum No 5 - Footsteps in the Graveyard - Coconut Grove Miami -
Legend has it that the video for "Thriller" was filmed here, in the Coconut Grove Cemetery, Miami. While 80's zombies roaming around may be no more than urbanlore, it didn't stop me from nearly jumping out of my skin when a small white figure began to creep up from the side of one of the above ground graves. You can hear me stop walking when this happens. I was probably no more than seconds from screaming when the white figure revealed itself to be no more than a ghost white cat. There's also a rustle towards the end of the recording and though, again, it was probably no more than another graveyard kitty scampering through the shrubs, it startled me all over again. There's something about graveyards that's just spooky that way. The Coconut Grove Cemetery has been around since 1906, when Miami's Bahamian immigrants relocated their original Miami cemetery to this location. Most all the graves are above ground and many of the coffins have really unusual handles on the top which makes it look like it would be easy to open the coffins back up. This is Broadcast No 5 of The Sunken Hum - my year long sound diary for 2013.
The Sunken Hum Broadcast 4 - Hissing Foam of the Ocean, Miami
After the waves crash out on the beach, the foams recedes in what sounds like a hiss back into the ocean.
For today's broadcast of The Sunken Hum, I got down right next to the water and tried to capture as much of the hissing foam sound as possible. I did this late at night so the usual crowd of bathing beauties had long gone off. What sound diary of a trip to the beach would be complete without at least one sound clip of the ocean itself?
I used my Zoom H4 with a Redhead Windscreen to block the night's light breeze.
This is the fourth day of my daily two minute sound diary project for 2013.
The Sunken Hum Broadcast 1 - The People on South Beach, Miami, New Year's Eve
This is the first of my year long, two minute, daily sound diary broadcasts for The Sunken Hum. New Year's Eve on South Beach, Miami walking through the crowds. The music from one club mixes over with the beats from the next and the people speak in all different tongues.
