12) your weaknesses as an author
Completing projects, fscking pacing, having characters who move and act rather than staring around thinking about things. Also, I'm still figuring out how character arcs work.
13) your strengths as an author
Emotional intensity, interesting ideas and angles, characterization and interactions. Looking at the technical aspects of a world.

18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? what were they? GOD. ok. of course you’d ask this one. alright i hate to admit it but chuck palahniuk probably influenced me whether i like it or not because i had bad taste as a teenager but those were also my formative years, so... but also the brief wondrous life of oscar wao, i think because it taught me to not be afraid of a more conversational narrative, to write more authentically to my own experiences, even filtered through characters who don’t look or act like me. it still feels like that’s not fully the answer... but it’s what i have for now.
21) what do you think when you read over your older work? sometimes, affection. even work from as recently as three years ago still has problems, things i wouldn’t do today, but there’s plenty of brilliance, of writing that squeezes my heart. i look at some of what i wrote seven years ago, and there’s so much worth saving. i know you know what’s in my 2009 nano, and while there are plenty of parts i regret, there are still passages that make me feel exactly what i know my past self intended to evoke, feelings of tenderness or quiet dread or outright terror. i’m proud of how far i’ve come but the quality of my current work didn’t spring out of nothingness.
23) any obscure life experiences that you feel have helped your writing? that’s hard! uh... i would say the caravan i went on down the east coast when i was 15, but surprisingly, i’ve never written a road trip story, despite having the perfect life experience for it. i’ve also never written about being dragged by a horse? every life experience, though, no matter how small, is rife for being torn apart for writing purposes. imo anyway.
Teacher Appreciation Post
I really want to take a minute to appreciate teachers and teachers’ assistants and anyone who cares for and manages a lot of kids every day. I spent an hour and a half playing with two very energetic kids yesterday and, even though it was fun, it wore me out. You guys are in a classroom with anywhere from 20-35 kids (or more, depending on grade, school, learning levels, etc.) for several hours a day whether you feel like being there or not. I’ve never had any teaching experience or much experience with kids at all, but I know it is incredibly difficult work that deserves more recognition than it gets.
I’m not applying this to just children either, I mean high school kids, middle school, any age group. You’re not just there to watch them, you’re trying so hard to TEACH them something, to engage them, to motivate them. You care for them, whether it’s on a personal level or not, even if you don’t like every single kid.
I can only speak as someone who was a student, and the appreciation unfortunately does sometimes come later than it is warranted, but I can tell you that you never know whose life you’re changing. I can say I’ve had several teachers whose names I remember fondly because they cared, because they knew how to make the material interesting, because despite maybe having over 100 names total to learn and remember, they DID remember all our names and often remembered them long after I was in their class.
So many of you take the time to get to know your students even while you have your own lives and problems, and that means a lot to us. You’re all pretty amazing. Thank you for what you do. Thank you for helping, caring, teaching, and listening.

i don’t think it is–when i hear about this stuff from you it just makes me happy that you’re having some success. money is really important, and the idea that it’s a forbidden subject has always struck me as super classist and weird.
honestly you’re right! i just always wonder like... why i never hear anybody else talk about it, like people who care about classism and/or didn’t grow up rich, so that still makes me feel weird about it. it’s not a super necessary topic but sometimes when your finances are looking so much better than they did even a few months ago i just... wanna talk about it because i feel so good about it lol
Ahahah I don't know if even I could do Fruits Basket at this point it's such an old fandom for me. Anyhow! Wally from the Pokemon games, and Mikami Teru from Death Note.

sunmoonandspoon answered: what the actual fuck??? yeah, you should definitely have been told about that!! i hope you didn’t take it?
I agree. Will ask the doc when I see ‘em next week. And no, I didn’t take any - otherwise it would have been less “panic attack” and more “vomiting up everything I’d eaten and panicking for several hours”.
fun fact: new york city's garbage used to be eaten by thousands of pigs that roamed the streets. the nyc upper class started complaining about how it made the city look dirty and unrefined, so the pigs were removed. after that, no one had any idea what to do with the garbage and it just sat there.
and one day evolved into me
