Introducing MyComedyBook & the MyComedyBook Launch Party
Chris Hall, a friend and business owner, invited me to set up a profile on a website.
"What kind of website?" I asked Immediately.
So, after a little bit of enlightenment, Chris introduced a new site for comedians to have a special place on the internet in a site specifically targeted to comedians.
On top of that, Chris was able to answer further questions about this project.
So tell me about MyComedyBook.com.
MyComedyBook is a new website that we’ve created to help comedians with their careers. Comedians from all over North America can create profiles with videos of themselves performing stand-up, and post their events. The site allows them to reach out to comedy lovers who are browsing the site for funny videos or looking for a comedy show to attend – and also present themselves to the comedy community in North America.
It’s been really exciting hearing the response we’ve gotten so far. We’ve already had comedians sign up from all over Canada and the U.S.
How does it differ, lets say from your typical Facebook fan page?
Facebook fan pages are fine if you’re super famous and in-demand… you don’t have to do much to get booked or expand your fan base. With that being said, people don’t get discovered on Facebook. It’s the people who already know about you that hit that ‘like’ button.
On My ComedyBook, a comedian can get their profiles and events featured on the front page of their desired regions. This way, they’ll be exposed to a market of comedy lovers, venue owners, agents, and major event co-ordinators that visit our site…. not just friends of their friends.
How important is it that a comic should have a profile page?
We expect My ComedyBook to become a standard tool for ambitious comedians. If you don’t have a profile page – which, by the way, is free and really simple to set up – you’re missing out on a lot of publicity.
Here’s an example: if you are on the line up for a show, and another comedian has posted the event on MCB, the profiles of all the other comics on the line up will be linked to it. A fan or someone in the media will see the photos of the other comedians, check out their bios and watch their videos, but have no idea who you are. While the other comedians on the show are becoming memorable, anticipated, and talked about – you get left behind no matter how funny you are.
What tools are there on MyComedyBook that can help boost the exposure of an individual?
We’ve set up the site in a location-specific way that takes into account the touring nature of the business. A comedian from Vancouver would likely travel to Calgary or Seattle to perform. Each comedian can customize the exposure of their profile page – choosing to be promoted to the states and provinces that make sense for them.
Also, the front page of My ComedyBook has a ‘Most Views this Week’ and ‘Most Laughs’ section. If a comedian gets the most views or laughs – they’ll be featured on the front page. As the popularity of the website grows, this will become more and more difficult to achieve. Who do you think a casting agent is going to check out first when they visit MCB? We’re excited to see the competition for these front-page spots.
So, whats happening on March 29, the date of the MyComedyBook Launch Party?
On March 29th we’re celebrating the launch of My ComedyBook. We’ve booked some of our favorite local comedians [Phil Hanley, Dylan Rhymer, Dino Archie, Greg Kettner, Darcy Michael, Sunee Dhaliwal] to help showcase the incredible talent that our city has to offer. It’s going to be a great night – and a great celebration.
People who are interested in attending can contact [email protected] to request guestlist.
